Why Did he die first????? Makes no sense, he should have survived longer or even could have survived. The weird little "music" boy should have died first. Really a damper on the movie in my opinion. Stupid move on the producers and writers.

I thought Jeff's death was genuinely shocking. He was clearly set up at the start of the movie as a macho alpha male type who usually takes charge in a tense situation, but instead he wound up getting killed first.

Genuinely shocking how? He was clearly set up as the guy who makes poor decisions. The moment he said he was going to make a distraction he was toast.
If Ari Gold saw Chappie he would say:
"Chappie makes Elysium look like Citizen ƒvcking Kane"
You just thought he was hot. Lol. It made the movie better in my opinion. We all totally thought he would be the hero and then bam he dies. I liked it.
