Correct, Alien Isolation is possibly the best of its kind: if you crawl into an air duct, the monster crawls in there with you; if you hide inside a locker, the monster can SMELL YOUR BREATH and pull you out. In Outlast and many other games, crawling into air ducts and hiding inside lockers always make you safe. Though enjoyable, many horror games still rely on cliches and conventions. That is why Alien Isolation stands out so much. The one thing Outlast is good at is the level design. There are maze-like corridors, as well as huge, dark spaces that you have to blindly go through with your poor-quality night vision camera. I especially like that big, empty, dark room with only a hard-to-see ladder in the middle.
