Ignore the naysayers, this is a very good movie

If you are looking for CGI infected, brainless fun, go see Transformers. But if you want to see a thinking person's sci-fi film, this one's for you. Sure, reviewers can take pot shots at this or that alleged failing. So what? Every movie has its detractors and yes, even, its flaws. Be your own thinker. See this movie and decide for yourself.

Oh, the posters who don't think Olivia Cooke is pretty, what planet are you from?

What about NI sayers ?

reply

They are busy tending to their shrubberies.

reply

Or they may still be out trying to badger someone to cut down the tallest tree in the forest....with a herring! ;-)

reply

Agree it was a good movie, I liked that the facility they were in was a mash-up of technology, the cassette recorder with the piano keys being very strange to see :)

The film has glaring flaws, but from a film-making perspective has some very effective scenes and shows the potential of the director. Definitely recommend for those who like indie, low tech scifi films and aren't expecting a "mind-blowing" experience.

reply

I agree with this... the director has a future...

Not a terrible movie...different...

it was interesting for a while waiting for the main character to get the reveal.

reply

It wasn't perfect, or even great, but it was diverting enough and worth a watch.

The general aesthetics were excellent also.

reply

Spot on! I really enjoyed this one, no spoon feeding. It started slow, but it got better by the minute. The ending was terrific!

reply

No. This movie is crap.

reply

This movie is excellent for close-minded people who haven't seen any sci-fi before.

reply

Have to agree. Worth my time and $.
Started off slowly but continually gained speed.
Good ending.

Still yet to decide .....
Setting the stage for #2?
What's her power?
The other guy still alive?
Seems to be able to handle himself and why would they trash their experiments?

If you're not appalled, you're not paying attention ....

If you want to see a thinking person's sci-fi film watch 2001 A Space Odyssey (1968), Blade Runner (1982), Dark City (1998), Minority Report (2002), Moon (2009), AI (2001), Stalker (1979), Gattaca, (1997). But don't waste your time on pretentious crap like this film.

I'd add Seconds, 12 Monkeys, Brazil, Looper, Event Horizon and The Crazies to Tiger_Trek's list of thought-provoking sci-fi. The problem with The Signal is that, while certainly raising questions, there is no coherent contatenation in the answers. There is no synthesis to be had. The pleasures are all fragmented here. Very interested in seeing more from William Eubank. As an introduction to his talents as a filmmaker, The Signal is a noteworthy achievement. But as a storyteller, Eubank has much to prove.
