Eric Roberts in 'Grandpa' role

Eric Roberts in the role as "Grandpa" is just weird to me. But at least he's playing a good guy. Been in too many evil roles lately.

That was interesting. Talk about playing against type!

I personally think it's great to see Eric Roberts back in the saddle. Been following him for years and to watch him help boost up and coming actors, and singers with his own notoriety and fame is the beauty that is ERIC ROBERTS.

I loved him in this role. Maybe because I saw this side of him on Celebrity Rehab-sweet, loving and tender. Always thought he was a very handsome man and super talented. I hope he does more movies like this!

It wasn't so weird seeing him as a Grandfather. What was weird for me is that the woman who played his daughter is only fifteen years younger than him.

Proudly defending films older than Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, and Miley Cyrus.

Yea, that weirded me out too. I still remember Sydney Penny from "The New Gidget" days.

reply

Likewise, Sydney in a beach & surfing scene brought back a lot of "New Gidget" memories. And she is looking fine at 41 !

reply

Well he is 57 now ....

He may be 57 but he doesn't have any grand kids in real life so it was weird for me to see him as Grandpa too.

I loved seeing him play the good guy....he's great either playing the bad guy or good guy but he's perfect in the good guy role. He seems like a sweetheart in real life too.

I thought the same thing too when "Alyssa" showed up at his house and called him Dad...she's not that much younger than him!

Great movie!

He was 57 when this was made and Sydney Penny who played his daughter was 15 years younger. Adam Horner who played her son was 21 years younger than her (he's 21, but is supposed to be 17). So it's possible, however Eric Roberts would have lost his virginity at 14 and become a father at 15. Possible, but unlikely. Actually in real life he has one daughter whom he had at age 34. I.e. in the movie he was 36 years older than his grandson vs. real life 34 years older than his daughter. Yes, these age discrepancies happen all the time in acting, but as you hint at, Eric is so youthful, it's hard to suspend your disbelief.
