Long tent scene.

I enjoyed this film. Have to say I was impressed by the very long 'one take' tent scene, our two characters pulled this off very well. It can't be easy to do a shot that long.

Good job Bob or Zed lol, not a perfect film by any means but good nonetheless.

When youre not working with a script or any major timed moments... ya, its pretty easy.

I think this movie is a perfect example of why found footage films are garbage.
Was it better than a lot of FF movies? Absolutely, instead of 1 or 2 stars, i gave it a 3, probably deserving of a 3.5.

That being said 95% of this movie is not written, not scripted, probably not even practiced, and is filler. 95% of this movie does not move the plot forward. We do not need to see 14 minutes of this guy attempting to get the opening shot of his documentary perfect.

The drive to the location, ya, didnt need to be that long. What "major" pieces of information or plot points did we discover? None. Absolutely none.

Tent gets destroyed? Oh well whatever. nothing discovered, nothing gained, no information added and not needed in the movie at all. Okay, lets stay in the same place.

We definitely didnt need what seemed like 20 minutes spent in a tent listening to sounds. Any decent writer could have cut this down to 5 minutes, had a higher level of tension and actually moved the story forward.

I dunno. Im just having major issues with this movie...... In fact i hesitate to call it a movie.

I think i am going to copy and paste this a few places because there seems to be a lot of people who have a hard-on for this movie and i cant figure out why.

i didn't care much for this movie, which is a bummer because i actually do like found footage films. what i don't understand is why you seem to care so much that people like a move you didn't like? obviously you don't like the genre, so what did you expect?

the guy you're replying to really like the tent scene, so whether or not we "needed it" is subjective.
i should have stopped reading at "ya, its pretty easy. " but here we are...

I completely agree with you, knightofdreamz. It amazes me but alot of people have a hard-on for all "found footage." How was Paranormal Activity a huge success??? I guess most peoples standards are pretty low.

Wow you are full of yourself. How pathetic.

And people like you, who need everyone spelled out for them and spoon fed to them, are the reason why 90% of films that are released these days suck. Keep fighting the good fight.

the only found footage film I've ever seen that was genuinely scary and well-made was the original [REC] (not to *beep* American remake.)

Yeah, that's definitely one of the scariest movies I've seen!

"Sure - I just like TV better."

I have a solution for your problems, you dont like found footage movies??

DONT WATCH THEM!!

Why are people here at imdb so damn dumb?

Havin said that...

This movie is awesome, IF YOU LIKE FF MOVIES!!

reply

Yeah like 15 minutes in one shot kinda got boring after 5.

Yeah, I was too in a way but then again I think it was more effective that we didn't get to see what was outside. Made you use your imagination a little more.

"Our two characters pulled this off very well?" Really?

The emotion was very inconsistent. When one of them looked more serious or terrified even, the other had a blank, nonchalant look on their face, as if they weren't both reacting to the same thing.

The guy never got a serious enough look on his face and the woman never tried to curtail her screaming. Who screams freely when there is something unknown nearby?

The incompetence of the acting and direction(emotion is never conveyed properly) are the main problems with "found footage" besides the shaky camera and never seeing the threat clearly.

Why do so many people that clearly despise found footage movies bother watching them in the first place? Is it just so u can go on a msg board and trash those whose opinions differ from yours?

He's nothing next to Bart Taylor.

I had headphones on when I watched it, so I was totally drawn in by the noises. I could hear the source of the noises moving around and it really felt like I was sitting in a tent with something lurking nearby outside.

I heard about this scene before I watched the movie and I was a little hesitant about it. But I liked it more than I expected I would. I do agree that the female character's screaming seemed a little out of place, but if they were going to keep the light on then they were pretty much past the point of being discreet anyway.

Eh.

It was all improv, so not very difficult at all, in any way. For me, the tent scene could have been five minutes long and it would have done a better job.

It becomes very clear as you watch that Goldthwait is so proud of this 'accomplishment' that he can't bear to cut his footage because he thinks it's terrific as opposed to boring.

Which is what it ultimately is.
