question about the opening sequence in Iran

When Scarlett just gets out of the building being demolished, she sees a man hanging by a rope. I get that the image is echoed later and that her father committed suicide. But why did she see that there in Iran? Didn't seem like there was anything supernatural going on at that point. She wasn't in hell/the underworld.
