Hmm, seems like the guys who are doing the film definitely are of the interpretation that Adam was 11 years old when he got cursed if the portrait is of any indication. And based on the Enchantress, Agatha, playing a prominent role... I think she's definitely going to be the co-villain alongside Gaston. Maybe the, for lack of a better term, man behind the man regarding Gaston's actions.

Speaking of Gaston, though... I think this is the first I've seen him carrying an actual sword in any medium (well, maybe Once Upon a Time as well, but I'm not too sure about that since I never saw it), and the painting in the background implies that he's a soldier who fought in wars. So, now he's a soldier instead of a hunter? That also reminds me, can anyone with knowledge of French History deduce from the painting and uniforms belonging to Gaston and those defeated soldiers the rough time period of the film?

History buff here. Based on the soldiers' uniforms and the extremely baroque style of the castle's interior, I'd put big money on the mid to late 1700s.

I'm honestly disappointed. I'm still going to see it, but I don't like the designs.

Maurice looks quite awesome (especially his workshop), the objects/servants look great - despite the tweaks, and I think Beast and Belle look fine. Disappointed Evans didn't bulk up more than that for Gaston. Also noticed they let him keep his little mustache which isn't GASTON at all. Guess I should be grateful he still has a ponytail.

Ironically, during development, Gaston in the animated film actually WAS supposed to have a moustache (the same one in fact, or at least a similar one). I'm not kidding, here's the concept art:

I just don't think Emma Watson is pretty enough for Belle (aka "the most beautiful girl in town"). She always has that stank face, which makes it worse. Her profile in the pic where she and Beast are dancing is just unfortunate.

Stop judging everything by its cover. The movie is not even out yet, and you're already going against the theme that Beauty and the beast is trying to teach you. Don't judge a book by its cover.

reply

Yeah, Edward davies? When the opening song explicitly states that Belle is supposed to be the most beautiful woman in the village, I'm pretty sure that in that case, they're referring to her outer beauty, in other words, the cover of Belle's "book."

reply

They are referring to both

reply

Are they? Because commenting that she was slightly odd in the opening song indicates they weren't seeing her inner beauty.

reply

Which still falls into don't judge a book by it's cover.

reply

No, it really doesn't. The idea of not judging a book by its cover would mean you don't focus on the physical appearance of a person. And it's pretty clear that they recognized what her character was like and that they didn't exactly like it. Hence, they didn't judge her book by its cover, because they made clear that her character they didn't like, even if she was beautiful.
