OMG! This stinks!!!

Hate to say it because I really like Bob Odenkirk. I think he's really funny, and I wanted to like it, but I can't help it. This shows stinks like rotten garbage. There wasn't one thing that was funny. It all relied on bathroom humor...sitting on the toilet jokes, wiping a butt jokes, ugly guys standing around naked jokes, farting jokes, puking jokes. That isn't funny. It's just stupid and juvenile.

This will be cancelled, mark my words. I won't waste another nano-second on this sophomoric trash.

Sorry Bobby O. Better luck with "Better Call Saul". :-P

It's not SNL... it's alt sketch comedy. And where are you getting all bathroom humor? Maybe a couple jokes but did you even watch the same show? Very deceptive post. The first 10 minuets there was nothing even remotely vulgar. A computer sketch, a car sketch, etc. And hell, if you watch SNL you'll eventually get all that "bathroom humor" or listen to dumb ass shows like Howard Stern who is ten times worse, yet INSANELY popular.

I'm not defending fart jokes, but it's just a different kind of comedy than "mainstream". Wasn't the best, but far far from the worst.

snl sucks shitdicks compared to this badass show

reply

The pilot should have been better. I'll keep watching, but with guarded optimism.

reply

You guys must be apple fanboys. Lol

Thought it was hilarious.

reply

It didn't rely on bathroom humor at all. You just didn't "get it".

reply

Who are you saying didn't "get it" Einstein?

I "get it" just fine....I just don't like it. I don't find humor that relies on references to farting, showing someone going to the toilet, references to fecal matter and urine or puke, nudity and genitals, that sort of thing. There's too much of it, but the humor that wasn't plain vulgar, just wasn't funny, or clever or witty. It just fell flat.

Very disappointing.

reply

Yeah, you really didn't "get" it.

I just watched an episode from the first season and didn't see a single thing mentioned in your post. While they're not afraid to use "body" humor, I hardly think it's the basis of their comedy. And while it's not a genius sketch comedy program, it's certainly not the "garbage" you suggested it is in your first post. That would mean the show is totally worthless, among the worst shows ever made, virtually unwatchable...but that's simply not the case here. It's one thing to give a show a thoughtful critique, and another to dismiss it out of hand. But you've gone out of your way to savage the show with hyperbole and mischaracterizations, as if you have an ax to grind. Everyone has a right to their own opinions, but you can't expect others to accept as valid a critique such as the one you posted.

I just saw this on Netflix and LOVE it.

Yes, it's a return to the days of "Kids In the Hall" and "Mr. Show", which was deliberate, and why they got Bob Odenkirk to produce. The "Boys" wanted a classic sketch comedy show, and I think they do a great job.

reply

Oh, cut the crap with the "You don't 'get it'" garbage. That's just hipster attitude nonsense. "The Birthday Boys" is NOT funny, and it has nothing to do with not 'getting it'. The jokes are incredibly lame and only work inside the echo chamber of a small group of friends hanging out and having a bunch of beers. As 'comedy' show presented to the general public, it falls incredibly flat. Absurd comedy is not funny comedy.

Did you even see Minute Forty Six? I agree it isn't perfect, but each episode has had at least one bit I enjoyed quite a bit.

It take time to get to know a crew, looking back on mr show, most of the laughs I get aren't even on "jokes" so much but on their delivery and the cliches of each guy. I think a few of these guys are pretty good, the big guy needs to shave his face so he can be more than 1 character per episode, but it's got potential

I have to agree, it's pretty bad. I have to admit though that I despise most sketch shows so it's no surprise that I don't like this show. On paper it seems I would like these types (KitH, Mr.Show, Tim & Eric) but for some reason I don't. I think it's because the jokes are obvious and there's no surprise during the "punchline" of the skit. I was hopeful that Odenkirk was going to do something new but to me it's just the same thing that all the aforementioned shows did.

I'm not going to be one of those people that demand it be removed from broadcast because I don't like it or the person that uses the pathetic phrase "You just don't get it.". I don't like green beans or dogs, does that mean I don't "get" those either?

If you despise Kith and Mr. Show then you have no business watching sketch comedy. Clearly you don't like the format and your opinion doesn't really have any weight when it comes discussing it due to your personal tastes. I'm not trying to say, you don't "get it", it's just not your thing."

My question is, if you despise two of what are usually regarded as some of the finest examples of sketch comedy, why would you even bother to watch the show in the first place?

reply

I think the reason I don't like it is I don't like any of the characters.

I love sketch comedy but I can't stand this show.

I see this is a show of you either get it and love it or don't and hate it.
