1690 celebrations - can someone fill me in?

Hi went to see T2 - the scene in the pub with the 1690 celebrations - can someone explain this scene? I know its about the battle of the boyne... but I don't really understand why this pub party was so passionately celebrating it? I assume they are a group or party that are v anti catholic? Would all of scotland be like this or? Thanks.

Orange lodge. Yes they hate Catholics. The march through Glasgow and annoy the fuck out of people holding up traffic and banging drums generally just being scum. They claim it's about tradition blah blah blah but it's nothing more than a hate group.

They're all a bunch of bigoted thugs, carrying on endless history of hatred because of some Royal lineage and a bloody battle in the 17thC.

Bitter idiots on both 'sides'.

It's weird how commoners on both sides hold the grudges while the majority of them never saw the fruits of their loyalties over the centuries.
