Starting to get contrived now

Latest series isn't a patch on the others, its like they KNOW they are TV stars now, and go OTT compared to last time. Guilty of this are Sandy and Sandra, The fat Jewish family and even the posh drunks.
At least the two gays are still value for money, they seem to be just as before.

Yeah. I still like it, but it does need some freshening up. They need to not let them all become parodies of themselves. That's what happens when you don't have talented actors or writers. It is just ordinary people who try to jazz up their performances for the cameras but they don't have any of the skills to do it. So they just start becoming 1 dimensional, so Leon will just become the old grump who hates everyone and everything, and the wife rolls her eyes, the Posh couple getting super hammered and acting especially toffish and drunk, etc.

In other words, if they can stay real people it might stay interesting. But if they start becoming "gogglebox celebrity families" that each have their own little 'act' to perform, it will just go bad really quickly. They need to not exploit any 'angles' and not let any of the people over egg their own performances. Also they need far more people/families, they seem to only have about 6 or so, and in the last episode even most of those were missing for some reason. It is pretty bloody boring as the Leon, Tappers, and Posh Couple show.

Other than that, I'm still hopeful for it. I think the political aspect of this show is pretty good. It is interesting to see what real British people are like, it is more multi cultural now and progressive, and most of them have an interest in politics too. I also don't watch much TV so I like seeing a kind of overview of all the crappy TV, because I would never watch any of that stuff myself. But watching other people watch it in shortened form is nice :)

p.s. Was it just me or was the American Pie thing just weird? Making the teenage boy watch that with his family felt awkward and odd and forced.

reply

Yes, the American Pie segment WAS a tad awkward, even for ME to watch with my wife.
Good summarization sir, I think we need to have more families as well, but NOT the lady vicar or the Geordie-Shore wannabee we've had recently.

reply

It certainly is contrived and of course they are aware that they are on tv and have a persona.

Its that man again!!

reply

I like Giles and his wife... comments are quite clever and witty.

I like the wife. She seems natural and doesn't play up for the cameras. Giles definitely plays up for the cameras, but as you said, he can be quite witty on occasion.

reply

Hi Vinny! Nice to see you around MC.

Yes, i like the way the wife is very dead-pan and natural. The husband clearly goofs it up for the cameras and she just kind of has none of it.

By the way, what is the pet-name this couple call each other? They both seem to address each other as "nutty" -- or am I hearing that wrong?
