Why in the world is this listed as a romantic comedy?

I can't be the only one thinking the genrification of this movie was wayyyy off. Every where I heard from imdb/netflix, was that this movie was a rom com with a touch of a sci fi twist a la safety not guaranteed. This was not even remotely close at all to being the same genre as that movie outside of the fact that they both feature some sci fi. That movie is way more typical upbeat rom com love story than this. What about this movie was at all was what you would expect from a romcom? Sure theres a bit of romance but it is all veiled under this creepiness of happening between clones/alternate versions of people.

I only watched this because I feel like seen everything else sci fi with a decent imdb rating so I finally forced myself to watch this. And I was shocked by how much more of a sci-fi thriller type feel I got from it than I expected(especially in the 2nd half). I was totally happy with this as I said I was hoping for sci fi going but was expecting very little. But even in the first half there was very little romance or comedy. The occasional line that would make you chuckle but even then it was closer to sci-fi/drama then it was romantic comedy.

Agree? Disagree? Whats your take on the genre of this movie? Also I really enjoyed it despite the fact that there are about a billion plot holes and virtually nothing sci-fi in the movie gets explained lol.

I completely agree. I put this on because I'd had a long day and just wanted a bit of fluff--but not too much fluff, so the summary of this looked interesting. But it actually made me incredibly anxious! This isn't romance. All the romance is duplicitous and with a layer of tension and actually kind of mild horror, to me. I don't personally get sci fi out of it, but I guess I assumed something supernatural was going on. But essentially, yes, I agree that it wasn't romcom.

Alocirp3, on the flip side, I was watching this for the rom-com experience. And I agree with you, I didn't get anything. I wonder why no one has changed it yet. Well, I'll try to change comedy, romance to thriller. Hey, should I put mystery in it?

Is it possible to change the genre of movies on imdb? If it is, there are many movies whose genres I'd like to change.

Yes, it is possible. As you can see, I have replaced romance with fantasy.

Can't you simply add "Fantasy" instead of replacing "Romance". You shouldn't take the "Romance" label down as this does definitely have a romantic theme. It may not be a rom-com, but romance is indeed a big part of it.

"I love you" "I'm gonna be a better man" "I want you back" etc., etc. IS romance! Did we see any of that in "Predator"? No, b/c romance is not an element in Predator. THAT is why there's no "romance" label in "Predator". But "The One I Love" is heavy in the romance department." You couldn't be more dead wrong when you say that "romance" is not an element in this movie. And no, I'm not going to add it b/c it's not my place to. You never should have deleted it. You don't know anything about movies and storytelling if you're claiming that this movie had NO romantic elements. You don't know what you're doing and you shouldn't be allowed to jack-up the film pages. IMDB needs to change this.

You are coming too strong buddy. Users are allowed to change genre, so IMDb believes that it is your place to change these tags. And if you still think that you should not have this power, you could ask it on get satisfaction.

And I never said that this movie does not have romance element, but that department is not that strong to make it in the tags. I believe that original Ethan and Sophie had romantic love for each other but this movie is not about that.

You don't even know how to comprehend this movie properly; this movie ABSOLUTELY is about Ethan and Sophie's love for one another. THIS is the reason you shouldn't be changing the genres of a film page and jacking it up. You don't know what you're talking about. And I don't even know how to change the genre on the film pages, nor do I feel it's our place. Just b/c IMDB allows users to change the genre doesn't mean you should jack it up. You must be a kid b/c you have no idea about adult-themed films.
