what are your Superman Lives memories?

I remember all the news and rumours about 'Lives' (aka Reborn) in the late 90s on sites like AICN and was following them religiously. favourite rumour was Christopher Reeve would have a cameo either as Clark Kents wheelchair bound friend...or as playing Superman in the opening Doomsday battle via CG and a body double - mostly itd be long shots/close ups of the bodydouble in the classic suit with just glimpses of Reeve's 1997 face CGId on like that commercial that showed Reeve walking https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5zbEsQYMb0 (that stuff was obviously done later - see Oliver Reed in Gladiator, Pitt in Ben Button, Arnie in T4, Bridges in Tron 2, and even the alleged Reeve 'cameo' in MOS..and more recently with Walker in FF7 and Arnie again in TGEN). in fact they’d already used early CG faces for Titanic stunt doubles and in The Crow following Brandon Lees death so it was possible even back then. so Reeve's Superman dies as in the comics then is rejuvenated Dr Who style into Cage in the new suit. (although I dont think that was ever a genuine thing that would be in the movie, for one thing the rest of the cast would be different no Kidder, McClure etc...but it was a fun rumour and would be a cool tie in with the original films. anyway the CG Reeve Superman in 'Lives' couldve just been like a 'generic' Superman that just looked like Reeve, not necessarily the one from the previous 4 movies). I guess alternatively they couldve had Reeve for Jor El via CG (like they did Brando in SR)

Also remember AICN showing some concept art of Superman in black hanging onto the Daily Planet globe and dropping Lois:

Then there were casting rumours, Jack Nicholson or Spacey as Luther, Bullock or Courtney Cox or Linda fiorentino or JLo as Lois, Carrey as Brainiac, Affleck or Ralph Finnes or Daniel Day Lewis, and of course Cage as superman, possible Bat Keaton cameo

There was also a lot of backlash against Cage playing superman on early message boards (Superman Cinema was one) like there was for BatKeaton. But the Cage casting never bothered me as id recently seen Con Air so had no doubts about Cage being a buffed up mulleted Superman

anyone recall any of that stuff back in the late 90s?

That was for the JJ Abrams Superman trilogy

WARNER BROS. puts out animated DC Features it would be Amazing if they take all the production design and script and make an Animated SUPERMAN LIVES with all the original intended talent.
Tim Burton directing would be amazing, having Nicholas Cage and Michael Keatons cameo as voice Actors ??

nice idea. or at least a comic book adaptation with the likenesses of the various actors who would've been in it. (wonder if they could get away with having pre death Superman look like Reeve?)

I recall it was going to be shot in Pittsburgh (live there).

The Daily Planet was going to be in I think the City County Building downtown. I guess there is a large tall area and they were going to build a false floor. They would shoot as people went about their business underneath their feet.

I found this one line here:

Burton chose Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as his primary filming location for Metropolis,

Oh yeah I remember Pittsburgh. How cool would that'd been for you!

We got to be Gotham City for part of "Dark Knight Rises" (which I was a cop in), so I think we did okay.

just watched the Doc and see that Walken was Brainiac, Spacey as Lex, Bullock as Lois, Rock as Olsen but no Perry was mentioned - wonder whod Burton would've got? - maybe Jack Nicolson?

I remember reading an interview with Burton, during the promotion of Planet of the Apes, where he said he quit because at the meetings all the studio executives weren't interested in the movie itself, rather in what kind of toys they should give for the kid's menu at the fast food restaurant and stuff like that. I've found it strange that it didn't come up in this documentary.

I belonged to a Spiderman email feed-thing and this guy mentioned the movie being in pre-production. We shot the pros and cons back and forth, I wasn't overly against Cage pulling it off as he seemed pretty versatile and I was willing to see something other than traditional look. Then I was driving to work around '99 ish and Cage was on Howard Stern going on about he sold all his comics and not wanting to worship false gods, etc.

I remember reading about it back in an Entertainment Weekly magazine back in late 1996. It also had a write up on Face/Off which was supposed to have Arnold Shwarzenegger and Sylvestor Stallone but now had Nicolas Cage and John Travolta instead. I remember being excited for both projects.

I remember the silver "S" posters/ads. I remember Cage being attached thinking eh I dunno, its like if James Caan had been cast instead of Chris Reeve. Looks odd, but could work.

If I didn’t talk the way I talk I wouldn’t know who the hell I am, Sean Connery on his accent
