Friends with Cancelled Lives

yeah I said it.

5 episodes top.

reply

I said it before.
The young kids would rather watch NBC sitcom reruns (Friends, Seinfeld, Mad About You, HIMYM) which have likeable characters centred on friendship.

The old people prefer cop dramas and reality contest shows.

Who's your market?

reply

Maybe those like me that are right smack in between the young kids and old people.
Most of the shows you mention...Friends/Seinfeld/Mad About You were huge hits in the 90's back when my age group were the targeted "young kids".

So at least for myself, (I can't speak for my whole generation of course), FWBL was exactly in the same vein as those great shows. Perhaps call it nostalgia for another 'Friends' type show for the aging Gen X audience.

BTW, I never really considered HIMYM to be comparable to Friends in any way. In fact, I actually found it unwatchable after the second season and stopped watching. IMO, that was a show more geared towards Gen Y market.

So bottom line, and the point I think i'm trying to make somewhere in here lol, is that I believe the audience or market for FWBL could have been us Gen X viewers who fall between the Millenials/Gen Y young kids and the procedural loving old people Boomers.

Please say it isn't so

reply

Actually, I agree with you. But shows aimed Gen-Xers have a habit of being cancelled. They lack the numbers.

reply

I was rather disappointed the show got cancelled since It was quite good.

reply

To each its own, I can respect that, but seriously and honestly, it would have been a travesty to let this show continue.

I really tried to give it a chance, watched episode one = meh/kinda ok, maybe episode two will change my mind = No! No! No! I could not continue to watch it, stopped around the probably half way through the episode. I mean, come-on, who is their target audience? Because the story/plot was not only unrealistic but just simply dumb. I get it, people we do stupid things every once in a while, but you don't have to be nitpicky to realize a couple of scenes from the get go were very questionable and superfluous.

reply

HIMYM was on CBS not NBC.
