Jenna Ortega Not Returning For ‘Scream 7’ Due To ‘Wednesday’ Shooting Schedule.

And here we are. This has been rumored but it's now being confirmed. Jenna Ortega is out!

Per a new Deadline article, released today.

EXCLUSIVE: Jenna Ortega, who was a lynchpin draw in getting Scream VI to the horror franchise’s best opening grosses ever at $44.4M stateside, $67M global, isn’t expected to return for Scream VII, we hear from sources.

This has nothing to do with the fallout from Melissa Barrera‘s firing yesterday by Spyglass Media over that actress’ social media repostings on the Hamas-Israel conflict; nor does it have to do with the actress asking for an end to her Scream contract. Ortega and Barrera played sisters in 2022’s Scream and this year’s Scream VI respectively as Tara and Sam Carpenter.

We understand that Ortega’s exit from the next Scream was discussed before the actors strike. A script for Scream VII is not ready yet, and the Primetime Emmy nominee has to head to Ireland in April to shoot the second season of Netflix’s Wednesday which will go into the summer. Additionally, Beetlejuice post SAG-AFTRA strike had a few extra days of shooting in order to meet its Labor Day 2024 theatrical release.

I believe it. It's been rumored for a long time now. I think the timing of this all is due to the medias interest in Scream 7's pre-production in light of Melissa Barrera's firing.

Here's an article from 2nd August.

No word yet on who will be writing Scream 7, but THR reports that Melissa Barrera and Mason Gooding are expected to return. As for Jenna Ortega, only time will tell.

THR notes, “Ortega’s deal will be one to watch, as the actress signed on to the franchise before she was catapulted to the A-list thanks to Netflix’s Wednesday.”

I knew it was a possibility, but I think this might have tipped the balance.

Well yeah I agree. Ortega's involvement has been up in the air for nearly 4 months but the directors leaving the project and now Barrera getting fired made me confident she was definitely leaving too. The entire project is falling apart.

Just end the franchise.

Sources say that Ortega’s representatives informed Spyglass prior to the actors strike that the actress, one of the biggest young Hollywood names to emerge in the past decade, would not be returning. Multiple sources say the actress either had no deal or, in the renegotiating of her option, asked what the movie company deemed was too much money.

Some reports now claiming it's a money issue. Wouldn't surprise me as Ortega is breaking out big time, the lead in a major Netflix series and getting work in Tim Burton projects now (Beetlejuice 2).

It's been rumored for months now that she was on the out with many suspecting she had outgrew the franchise and was wanting to work on bigger projects.

She signed on to the Scream franchise before she became a big name, in truth it was the Scream and X double whammy in 2022 that really helped her break out with Wednesday and Scream VI earlier this year really cementing it.

All this after Neve Campbell left Scream VI over pay disputes. Seems like spyglass are a bunch of cheapskates.
