What happened in Terminus? (possible spoilers)

Episode seemed one of the more confusing ones. A bunch of people wanted to kill a bunch of other people? Why?

How did they arrange a snowstorm to stop the bus close to a derelict hotel?

If the hotel has been derelict for years, why didn't the criminals break in and rob the safe years ago?

If the hotel has been derelict for years, how come the bar is fully stocked?

If this is the series swan song, it's a disappointing one to go out on.
