His weird accent

It sounded like he was a time traveller from the year 1733. Am I really the only one who was distracted by this...

reply

I thought it was strange too!!

reply

it was a mix ..almost Bosnian and English??

LOL, he was doing a Welsh accent. Locke was supposed to be Welsh.

I get the impression that a lot of people didn't like his accent.

reply

Yes, I was also slightly annoyed by it.

It sounded Czech, with some Hungarian thrown in.

reply

Really, I cant imagin any actor responding to a director saying " do an Czech accent and throw in some Hungarian....

Are you lot a sarnie short of a peekneek? Called Ivan and spoke like, well, Rob Brydon. Its not going to be Bosnia Herzogovonian is it? The basic idea of giving up family and biggest construction project in europe for the result of a one night stand was utterly improbable. As was the idea that the night before the local council clerk of works didnt have a clue what was going. Preposterous. Watchable though. 6.4/10

"The basic idea of giving up family and biggest construction project in europe for the result of a one night stand was utterly improbable." I guess you missed his "dialogues" with his father.

"As was the idea that the night before the local council clerk of works didnt have a clue what was going." Yes, of course, we all know that there is never any incompetence in government.

reply

Your accent's weird too.

reply

Just Welsh...

reply

Sounded like an Indian guy trying to do a Welsh accent. What could have been a brilliant perfomance was blighted by the distraction of Hardy demanding to use this bizzare accent.

Just commit suicide at four please.

reply

It is a well know fact that the accent of the indian people when they speak english was influnced strongly by the fact that the first British soldiers to be posted in India were maily from Welsh regiments, the Indian accent is also influnced by the Cork accent (major city and county in Ireland),possibly for the same reasons...

That doesn't make any sense, unless those British soldiers are still working there in the 21st century, why would Indians speak like that? Indians speak English with Indian accents taught to them by other Indians, Indian accents, when speaking English, don't sound like Welsh accents at all...

reply

Given that most of my mother's family is from Wales, he sounded pretty Welsh to me. I have no idea where in the hell all of this Czech/Hungarian is coming from?

You do realize Wales has a much different accent than England. Hell, England has hundreds of accents.

reply

Sounded Welsh to me too. Maybe some people don´t know what Welsh sounds like?

If it harms none, do what thou wilt.

That would be right. Don't get too many Welsh accents where I live (Australia) so I could not place it at all.

Thanks!

reply

Agree with your post 100 percent...

reply

The moment he started speaking i was like "oh right he's doing a Welsh accent"
Where the *beep* is everyone getting this Bosnia, Czech *beep* from? lol

reply

I guess a lot of people aren't familiar with the Welsh accent! I thought he did a good job actually... but why did he need to be Welsh? Just Tom Hardy's preference?

"I...drink...your...milkshake!"

reply

Ivan is a common Eastern European name, it is especially common in Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia and Russia.

reply

Ivan can also be a Welsh name spelled Evan but pronounced EEvan. Just thought I'd throw that into the debate !!

reply

I'm Welsh and have to say I thought he done a good job.
