Another Thing That Didn't Make Sense

I am only up to episode 6 in season 1. I'm enjoying the show even with all the plot holes. I didn't notice anyone mentioning the 1 about Octavia being found at the dance. I could possibly see they might have reasons to do inspections.

Maybe people are stealing extra rations and such but what reason would they have to be checking chips on people? They are in space, not like people are invading the Ark. Surely not expecting to find a teen that's been hidden for 16 years.

How did Octavia's mom hide her pregnancy for 9 months also would be another good question, lol.
