Does anyone ever pay the electric bill?

I have just started watching this. I think I am on Ep. 3. I am enjoying it so far, but why, why, why is it so poorly lit? Turn on a lamp, for Pete's sake! Is this some kind of fad that the director, or whoever is in charge of such things, wants you to have eye strain trying to make out what's going on? This is not the only drama I have watched where it's like watching through a brown fog.

I highly recommend the Israeli original (also called Hostages). It is available on Netflix. It's the same story but with enough small differences to make it worthwhile. I think the ending is better too. And there is a second season.
