What did the countdown mean? (Spoilers)

She was racing against the clock, but for what? I think the red queen said "the last human settlement will fall" or something like that. How could anyone put a timer on it, and one that goes down to the minute/second at that?

Also, the timer was down to minutes when Alice releases the cure. Surely that's way too late?

Yeah, that part was very rushed and easy to miss, the count was to stop the orders from Umbrella moles to attack the last convoys in the world, they had a mole everywhere and they had orders to kill. or honestly, I don't know what was the timer.
