No as good as The Faults in Our Stars

IMHO, I gave The Fault 8 stars and this one 7 star. I wasn't exactly sure about the relationship between me and Earl. They fighted and suddenly like nothing happened?! The titles are also very confusing!

OK I confess: I fell into TFIOS because we went to Amsterdam before I saw the movie. It was just a European tour. On the Amsterdam canal cruise, we passed Anne Frank museum etc etc, then the local tour guide pointed to a bench on the bank " this is the bench they sat in the movie..." So after the tour, I saw the movie, I know it's phony but I just can't help like it. IMHO, the lines are more interesting than ME Earl...

The Fault in Our Stars (book and movie) seemed to want to teach me "some people get cancer and die, that's sad." I knew this.

Me & Earl... (book and movie) showed me a unique set of personalities dealing with cancer and had something more interesting to say about it. Also consider that the book very much postured itself as "anti-TFiOS" and the movie continues that trend. I liked this book's take over Fault's take and that continued with the movies.

Also, the Fault in Our Stars spells out all it's little quirks to you and feels pretentious. "I put the killing thing in my mouth IT'S A METAPHOR" might be the most tryhard thing ever put to paper. And other things like Amsterdam's colors, infinities, etc. Me & Earl... lets you catch its quirks and references if you know them (the movie parodies, Julian Assange, etc.) without veering into a "more cultured than thou" overload of it.

Finally, I think the fight with Earl makes perfect sense. A lot of guys resolve issues with a fight and then go back to being friendly. But additionally, the gut punch was obviously out of respect. Earl knew that Greg quite literally needed some sense knocked into him. Greg eventually comes to realize this. And Earl seeing Greg in that other fight likely sped up the recovery process their friendship was in.

I really did prefer this one to The Fault in Our Stars. It was nice too, but way to typical, commercial... made so that everyone could watch it. A no brainer.

This one on the other hand has just everything a movie needs. Playing with the camera, actors performing well, an honest script with catchy text, very creative way of direction and editing for this kind of story.

I would definitely recommend you the french film of directrice Valerie Donzelli: Declaration of War.

Same here, a rough theme told differently.

I didn't like the Fault in Our Stars that much. As I said in another thread, this movie is much more simpler and can be related to. The Fault In Our Stars is somewhat of a fantasy-romance type of thing, except they just add deaths at the end to make it feel powerful.

This movie stayed away from 'love' and focused more on friendship and was unique in that way. The characters were a bit weird, but that was just to keep it comedic and it was refreshing

Clark: Jonathan Kent; isn't it a little past your bedtime?

comparing this movie to The Faults in Our Stars is like comparing starship troppers with Aliens in horror/scifi genre.

Not even close. Fault in our Stars was actually a good movie, whereas Me Earl Dying girl isn't close to being good.
