Rhys/Mathias - S2 SPOILERS

Does anyone else see the chemistry between these two? I felt that they went through a lot in Series 2 and that it only seemed to bring them closer together.

I read a lot about them being like brother and sister, which I don't see, except for Mared's pouting (entirely justified) when the guy who played their father in Pen Talar gives her job to Tom.

Tom's marriage is clearly over. Mared is married to the job and it's clear she's had very little luck with men.

I'm a huge X-Files/Law and Order:CI fan so I'm into partner relationships that heal and redeem each other and eventually (at least in the case of XF) lead to happily ever after.

I just feel like these two would be a good fit for a romance (of course as partners, this is probably unadvisable, but whatever) that helps to heal both their hearts. Mared can help Tom with his grief and he can be a father figure to her daughter and heal? I just want them to be happy. Their lives are pretty *beep*

Anyways just wondering if anyone feels the same as me. Tom/Mared y/n?

Well I would say the chemistry is definitely there, but at the moment both their lives are just too screwed up to dive into a relationship/hookup or whatever.
I think they are too invested in their problems to notice the possibility right now.
But to me it is clear that they deeply care for each other - even if it is (at the moment) more on a brother/sister basis.

Do I want to see them go down the Tom/Mared-road? I don`t know.
In most cases those shows lose it after the main couple gets together.
They are together but that gehts more or less "boring" for the viewer so they break them up just for suspensions sake.
I think I would actually prefer them to stay in a platonic relationship and just become closer friends (like it's done in Broadchurch).
Tom has not really opened up to Mared - I think the Season 2 finale was the first time he actually responded to her "Good night, Tom" with a "Good night, Mared" instead of just nodding or storming off. Mared seemed to be honestly surprised by his response. 
Therefore I would like to see them growing even closer together in season 3 and as you said - maybe even "healing" each other.

Just my two cents - and now the waiting for S3 begins... 

One thing I cannot stand is a forced pairing. I gave up on Murdoch Mysteries because the television writers insist on forcing a horrible paring, which I've read is NOT in the books. The characters don't belong together, they couldn't be more worse for each other, and the actors have zero chemistry. As for American television, if they keep trying to force Nick and Adalind togther I'll give up on Grimm.

Well, to be quite honest I don't see it as a "forced "pairing as you say. They clearly have chemistry and both clearly care for each other. They are the two most important people in each others lives, I think other than their children. He has split with his wife in the second series and she's moved away to Canada so it's clear there's no future with her for him. And we haven't seen any action in Mared's love life at all except for a few mentions of old boyfriends, and of course the existence of her daughter.

I read an interview with Ed Thomas from the killing times in which he states that the two of them, Mared & Tom, first think that they are complete opposites from each other, but then they start to see that they are actually a lot more alike then they realized. He also speaks about the possibility of a romantic story line between the two of them and states that they didn't want to do it at first but that when two people are working a homicide investigation together things can get a little intense. So he hasn't taking that off the table. I have not watched any of the other shows you're talking about, although my dad does love Murdoch mysteries.

I just feel like they seem to be too incredibly unhappy people and painfully single as well and feel as though I am getting together, if only it being a short time thing, would be beneficial to the tube them. I just want them to be happy, Plus they seem to enjoy each other's company for the most part. Married seeing especially hard when Tom said those words to her and expressed to him that she had been putting herself on the line for him. I see them as really good partners, but also I feel as though that they're a good fit

Looking at the latest promos I guess Tom`s hooking up with some blonde,
so I guess a Tom/Mared-Pairing is off the table in season 3.

But if there are more seasons (which I do hope for), they might go down that road.

I agree 100% with your comments about William Murdoch and Julia Ogden. He had much more sizzle with Anna (and even with Sally Pendrick) than he ever had with Julia. I, too, was disappointed to read there is a long, (dull) marriage ahead for the Murdochs. I was happy to see her marry Darcy, and move to Buffalo. Unfortunately, the marriage lasted only three episodes before Julia said, "Sayanora" and returned to Toronto and William. She didn't want Murdoch, but she didn't want anyone else to have him either. Other than that. I love Murdoch Mysteries and hope we have many more series ahead to enjoy.

There is definitely chemistry there. A lot of intensity. I went out with a Welsh girl for a while but we never got past being good friends despite having a strong earthy connection, similarities which i see between Mathias and Rhys. Let's hope they come closer together in series 3 but the Welsh aren't big on sentiment so, if the characters stay true to the Welsh stereotype then we could be waiting for years.

And since, after four years, it's apparent that no more new episodes will be made, we will now be waiting forever!

I don’t see a romantic chemistry only a very caring one , albeit, one-sided. Mared cares more for Tom than he does for her. But I’m only up to S2E3.
