I got the impression the screenwriters hadn't even watched The Force Awakens

It seems they were simply hired and tasked with producing any script that would enable the Disney Empire to best profit from merchandising deals given they knew that millions of fans would pay to see the movie no matter how trash it was and it didn't matter if all plot devices set up in The Force Awakens were scrapped.

But that strategy is stupid, cause you wont the milk the new bought cow as long as possible. Cause it was an expensive cow. And now they killed this poor cow.

And yep, the screenwriters were at least as stupid as Ruin Johnson.

Oh they saw it, they just weren’t required to observe any kind of continuity with it. On the contrary, Disney gave Ryebrain Johnson carte blanche to do whatever he wanted. So he simply threw TFA over his left shoulder and ignored it in favour of using it as a vehicle to push an SJW agenda. He even symbolically indicates this by having Luke throw the lightsaber over his shoulder.

I just hope to god that Abrams can salvage the situation.

Recognizer, there is nothing left to save anymore. Star Wars is dead. Without any possibility to reanimate it. Yar Yar Abrams and Ruin Johnsons destroyed a once in a lifetime chance to do something great. To bring the threee heroes back and do the transition in a smart and soft way. That way we all would have a chance to build a link to the new cast and starting to like them as much as we liked the old cast. At the end of Star Wars VIII the transistion would have been done (at latest) and we would have been waiting joyful for new Star Wars movies like we did at the 70s/80s. Indeed with the new cast.

But now Han and Luke were killed by their according directors (even in such a hateful way, that it was as obvious as possible, that the directors never were interested in making Star Wars movies at all, but instead wanted to build themselves some monument). And Carrie Fisher died a few months ago.

So there is no reboot left. No more times thos heroes will conquer the galaxy again. All left is something strange and stupid (beside that Ruin Johnson really hates Star Wars there was the even the bigger problem that he simply isnt a competent movie director at all. Ive never seen such a stupid and not working plot as within Last Hope) with a label put onto it we all know from earlier movies. And for some strange reason they chose the label "Star Wars" for their SF/Fantasy desaster.

So its sad that everything went as wrong as possible. And thats why Star Wars is completely destroyed. We cant like the new cast, cause they were introduced in such a dumb and meaningless way (beside that most of them are dumb characters anyway. Who could be really connected to a SuperSue and Emo Vader?) that noone with a working brain would give anything about them. The scripts were done by ... Gremlins (after their midnight snack :) ). And the directors both were horrible (for some strange reason most forgot how horrible Force Awakens was. It was Yar Yar Abrams as usual.)

.... First Yar Yar Abrams build his own personal monument (at Star Trek he destroyed Vulkan without the msallest reason and meaning. And at Star Wars he killed Han in such as stupid and useless way that it was as obvious as at Sta Trek that he only wanted to be the one whom killed Han Solo). And then there was the usual problem with Abrams (beside that he never learned that you have direct spots to the scne and not into the camera lens :) ). He cant do a working script. He simply isnt able to do so. His mystery boyes are just a label to hide the fact that he cant to a conclusive script. Thats his major problem for his whole career at the movie business. And most likely he wont learn it anymore. So yes, he will make another horrible movie with Star Wars IX (even f the situation isnt already as dead as it is).

And then came desaster Johnson. When we thought its safe to go the beaches ..... cinemas again :) . And destroyed everythng left of Star Wars Yar Yar Abrams missed before.

So thats the situation. But its no reason to be sad or whatever. We had 4-5 great movies and 1 movie which was mediocre (yes, its Phantom Menace indeed :) . Remeber when we thought Phantom Menace is as horrible as Star Wars could get? Oh, thos good times back then ;) ). We still could watch them (on Laserdisc even in the way it was always meant). Its the same scenario as with Indiana Jones. You only have to think that Indy IV never happened and everything is fine :) . Star Wars ends with the nice firework at Endor and thats it.
