Too much Holt going out of character this season?

I love Holt. He's my favourite character in the show. But what I've always enjoyed most about him is that even though he's such a serious character, once in a while he does something surprisingly over-the-top or makes a joke (the best moment in the show so far is him showing Jake pictures of him at hula-hooping class, deleting the pics then telling Jake "No-one will ever believe you!").

That being said, I feel like they're giving him too many of these moments and it's too much. It used to be a few a season, now it seems like there's a few per episode.

I agree with the OP. They don't show Holt and Kevin, his husband, having as much of a joviality in their relationship. If Holt would be out of character with anyone it should be with him before his squad. Kind of like how I can see Holt and Paralta growing close, in a separate way, after being in WitSec together.

he's had some great lines this season. they do feel out of character but i still eat it up. the 'vindication' punchline still kills me. also them in witness protection really does sort of justify how he acts around them. i don't mind it anymore.

Did you guys watch Fugitive Pt.2

He wasn't out of character whatsoever, please watch it guys.

I think his character is just evolving. The people he works with are rubbing off on him. As well as his time spent in witsec in Florida with Jake

It could be that he's always been a little more playful inside but he's just learning to open up around them more

I mean, he can't be a complete stick in the mud, his life-partner certainly knows there's more to him than just being serious all the time
