Too much Holt going out of character this season?

I love Holt. He's my favourite character in the show. But what I've always enjoyed most about him is that even though he's such a serious character, once in a while he does something surprisingly over-the-top or makes a joke (the best moment in the show so far is him showing Jake pictures of him at hula-hooping class, deleting the pics then telling Jake "No-one will ever believe you!").

That being said, I feel like they're giving him too many of these moments and it's too much. It used to be a few a season, now it seems like there's a few per episode.

I agree. niks_foonts, however, will likely post and tell you you are wrong and then explain why, because he/she/it doesn't think anyone is entitled to an opinion.

reply

I agree completely. Unfortunately it's a feature of sitcoms, the writers realise what will get a laugh and start to milk it after a while. His very first line in this week's episode was an example!

I don't think he's out of character, I think it's more him being comfortable and the office becoming his family. I think it's them rubbing off on him and him growing

Agreed. He gets it in sorta the same way Jake got why they were all wearing ties. Also, after their time in Witness Protection grew Holt and Jake became sorta friends and "got" each other on a whole new level.

The full bullpen!

i think their significant time spent in witness protection definitely had an impact, as has all of his time with the nine-nine. holt HAS changed.

even so, i agree that it's been a little overdone, which makes it less special.

reply

Agreed.

reply

I think you make a very valid point there. But I still think it makes him less funny.

reply

I can agree that maybe they have done it a bit too often so much that when he does something over the top, its no longer as surprising as it was before. On the other hand, its also them trying to show that Holt has integrated into the precinct as a family and has eased up.

reply

Agreed.

reply

Oh, you're referring to the fact that the characters on this show grow and change. Go watch big bang theory. I'm sure you'll like that.

reply

Yeah he is not the old Holt anymore.

Lose the Game!!!!!!!

Character development, what you say was very noticeable on the christmas episode, but I felt joy about Holt being happier now.
