Clarifying some questions

Ok, I rarely post on these message boards but a lot of people seem to be confused about this movie and I thought I followed it along pretty well so I'm going to give it a go at explaining.

First off, unlike most people, I really liked the ending. I found the beginning to be a bit hard to take in though.
As somebody who works in the IT industry, I thought Elijah Wood's character was quite gullible simply doing whatever Chord was telling him to when he was in the hotel room. Regardless if he was Nick Chambers or Nevada, both of them should have had enough IT knowledge not to simply download random files Chord was sending over without questioning it at all.
I guess that would've ended the movie right there though since Chord wouldn't have been able to hack into the laptop and his plan would've just fell apart so I let it slide.

Now as to explaining what happened, Nick Chambers was never actually in this movie except until the very end. Nevada was a whitehat hacker(good hacker as opposed to blackhat) that performed missions to help people out. This is why the french group Triops tried contacting him and didn't seem like bad guys as they wanted to help him out on one of his missions.
Chord was just a crazy fan that wanted to kidnap Jill.

Chord had this elaborate plan to pretend to be Nevada and force Nick Chambers to help him do it. To do this, he starts by killing(or thinking he kills) Nevada so he can steal his equipment(To have the hacking skills) and identity(To have somebody to blame for her death)
Nevada ends up not being killed, so he sets out on one of his missions to stop Chord and save Jill.

Some time before the movie starts, Nevada kidnaps Nick Chambers and gives him something that makes him sleep for the length of the movie. The entire movie, he's simply in his car, passed out on the steering wheel.
Nevada in the mean time gets a mask made up for him to look just like Nick Chambers so he can pretend to be him when dealing with Chord.

Most of the supposed plot holes people mention next in the house scene and car scene are simply old videos. Chord makes everybody else think he's still in the house when he's already left and Nevada makes Chord think he's still in the car when he's in the warehouse saving Jill.
At this point, Jill and Nevada go down in the bunker room or whatever you want to call it and blow up the rest of the warehouse with Chord in it. They survive the blast and are then stuck down there until things from the blast clear up outside.

The last point is the strange filming of them in the bunker. This was explained earlier when there were many cameras in Chord's bag in the trunk with Jill. With all the cameras bunched together, they could never get a full picture of what's going on but could get partial images and then put them together to get an idea of what's going on. This is why the filming is like that in the ending scene as they once again don't have a laptop and have to go by the cameras that we're to assume Chord put in the bunker at some point.

Are there other plotholes that I missed? Sure, probably but those are the ones I was seeing the most on previous messages which to me were all properly explained in the movie.
Hope this helps people answer a few questions.

You're basically right about everything except this: "The entire movie, he's simply in his car, passed out on the steering wheel". Actually, Nick is in the trunk in the car. After Chord shoots Nevada-disguised-as-Nick and leaves the scene, Nevada releases Nick from the trunk and places him in behind the wheel.

Other than that I understood the movie exactly like you did. The only thing I didn't like is this: Chord gives the impression of being an "I got everything under control" guy, in spite of him being just a guy who killed (not really) a hacker. Give me the equipment of a hacker and I'll be just a guy with the equipment of a hacker. Not a hacker. Anyway, at the end of the movie, when Nevada reveals his masterplan, Chord starts moaning like a fatherless child, and all the character built up till that moment collapses. Bad writing to that extent.

No, the overconfident Chord knew he was defeated and cries like a little baby. The posturing is over.
