Always wait until the ratings balance out.

There was one great scene in the middle of the movie where Bruce the cop gives a great performance. I left the theater after that. I knew there would be nothing that could top that. I wanted to leave after 15 minutes. There was so much potential with the script, budget, cast, and crew. Who screwed the movie up?

It's like someone handed them a million dollars and because they wanted it to be more than just a million dollars, they fold each dollar and begin cutting triangles and shapes into the folded money. Then they unfold the money and hang the money from their ceiling in their apartment, invite a bunch of their friends and say "look at my snowflakes everyone! It so great." Then someone yells from the back of the room, "You *beep* idiot!"

This is a practice that I don't understand. Leaving the theater while a movie is still playing is kinda dumb. You wasted your time going to the theater, and then you leave early and completely invalidate any opinion you may have had? Are you a brain surgeon, whose time is literally money, or are you a part of the entitlement generation?

reply

So I must sit through every movie until the end or otherwise I am labelled as being entitled or possibly a brain surgeon? Are you okay?

reply

I'd say leaving halfway through shows that you persevered and finally gave up. How many times have people started watching a film on DVD or TV and turned off upon deciding it was not for them. Your money; you walk out whenever you want to! :-)

reply

I don't think a person should not be allowed to, but one issue I do have is when one of those people goes on to "review" the film he/she walked out of, because, well... you can't really REview something you never viewed in the first place.

I've sat through some real crap in my life- some turn into "so bad, it's great", but most are just aggrivating (I'm looking at you Furious 7!) and, in retrospect, I probably wish I had walked, but something in me makes me stay... most of the time. Sometimes I'll hate the film, but find some other reason to finish watching, like I did with Only God Forgives, which was tough to sit through story-wise, but beautiful to look at.

There are, of course, a few exceptions: films that just reeked of incompetence right out of the gate and really rubbed me the wrong way. Films like Alex Cross or Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. Gawd, i wish I'd walked out on those...

I left before the opening credits had rolled. Why waste my time, right?

reply

I left the theater after that.
Interesting. I went the other way; stayed to the end. Predictable, but...

i mostly gave it a shot because Teresa Palmer is in it who is THE most attractive actress under the age of 30.

the movie itself... was not hard to get through (especially given the eye candy from Teresa Palmer and even Alice Braga for that matter to ;) ) but it's pretty forgettable though to as it's not a movie ill watch again and therefore can't get more than a 5/10 from me.

5/10 (Thumbs Down) ; but i could see how some people might rate it even lower than this though. but i still would not go lower than a 4/10 for sure. i think the cast (Palmer/Pegg/Braga) kept it watchable but they can't save the movie itself though as the quality just ain't there.

p.s. Warm Bodies (2013) (a solid 7/10 ; my #11 movie of 2013) is still the best movie Teresa Palmer appeared in so far but i expect that to change this year with Triple Nine (2015) which i assume will take that title given that directors reputation with me.

I wanted to leave after 15 minutes.

while i can start to get a rough idea of how a movie will turn out after 15-20minutes, given my interest levels in it at that time, i can't write a movie off as a failure til AT LEAST 30min-ish into it even though i usually try to get to at least 40minutes as if a movie is not holding your interest at all around that time frame it's safe to turn it off and call it a failure/boring. but to call a movie failure/boring after only 15minutes, which is what you are suggesting with that comment, i just can't do as that's not giving a movie a fair chance.

I guess if you didn't like the feel or direction of the movie then you possibly made the right decision (for you).Iif you walked out because of the story then it might have been the wrong one.

The plot only really makes sense a bit later as all the characters stories intertwine (for me in quite a satisfying way).

For me I actually enjoyed this movie. Is it a must see? Possibly not. Is it a waste of time waiting another 75 mins to see what is going on - no. There are loads of worse films than this one that's for sure.

I kind of agree with people who say your review means less if you don't watch it all. All you're saying is it wasn't for you.

I watched 40 minutes of the movie. While I did not really explain anything in my post, my title explains it all. I saw a screening when there was not many reviews of the movie out. Well now look at the ratings. My point was wait until the ratings are balanced out before going to see a movie. I was expecting more from the movie. Me leaving had nothing to do with the plot, I liked the plot elements and setting. Everything else was below my expectations, which yes was my fault but still the ratings were much higher when I saw the screening.

Sure that can be sage advice.

As a person who did finish watching this film I can verifiably say that the last half of the film was much better than the first 25%. The first part suffers from the fact that this movie's structure is done in parts (Like Pulp Fiction). Speaking of Pulp Fiction there is a copy of the scene where Butch Shoots Vince after an appliance suddenly does something. Anyway this movie was made in three parts so there isn't the first act introductory scenes you usually see in standard films. Because its done that way, it starts badly in that you dont know whats going on. If anyone is reading this and is thinking about doing a anthology type film, please do some scenes at the start to explain what the hell is going on. I vote this movie a 6, with a scene that explains things, I'd give it a 7 at least. Its a fun comedy caper type film that doesnt take itself seriously. Nor should you. Well as long as you ignore the films glaring errors.

What "glaring errors"?
