Key Elements. How a single scene tells you a lot about the wokeness of new Bond

This quote is from the Daily Main article:

'Bond, of course, is sexually attracted to the new female 007 and tries his usual seduction tricks, but is baffled when they don't work on a brilliant, young black woman who basically rolls her eyes at him and has no interest in jumping into his bed. Well, certainly not at the beginning.'

Why is it so meaningful?

Bond franchise used to be a straight-forward man's fantasy. Rules in fantasies for men are easy: the male character goes on an adventure, travels to new places, beats the bad guys, bangs the hot women around.

Rules in women's fantasy are different: the female character meets one or several hot/wealthy/powerful and sexy men, the 'top men' around, and those men become so interested in her that they dismiss any other woman so they can focus in the main female character. That's Twilight in a nutshell, to give some example. Or any romance novel.

Now, think about the scene again: in the old franchise, Bond would have moved on very quickly to bang some hot chick around, specially when Lashana isn't even a hot chick. Here, on the contrary, she rejects him, and he keeps trying until eventually she accepts him. The plot has shifted from being a fantasy for men, towards being a fantasy for women.

By the way, Bond 25 has been written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who is known as a feminist writer.
