Exorcism, AGAIN?

Hello guys. Am I the only one who feels like horror movies nowadays have nothing else to offer than an exorcism story? I mean, is it THAT hard to make anything different? Haven't "The Last Exorcism", "The Rite" and "The Devil Inside" been (bad) ENOUGH for the next 20 years?

Did he just permit an exorcism in an interrogation room? Where the hell were all those cops who work over there.

Its a little more deep than just exorcism.. its better than an unreal zombie flick

I would have preferred it if for once the possessed had shown no strong outward signs of possession like demonic faces. Malnutrition and general lack of self-care would have been enough. The ambiguity of their appearances combined with evil deeds would have had a greater impact, IMHO, and served the story better.

Yes, you are all alone and the only one in the entire world who isn't into possession flicks. How many comedies have there been this year? They keep pumpin' em out though--it's like come on man!! There were already 4 comedies out this year, omg stahp already!!! Buncha weirdos.

The problem isn't about how many movies of the genre come out in a year, but how many films with the SAME SUBJECT do. In this case, horror as a whole isn't the problem, but the same-old-story they always portray. I was once into possession flicks, but as a guy stated above, it loses its power to shock when it's too satured, like it is nowadays.

I don't watch horror films at all. So I'm not defending. But you don't make any sense.

Try rom-com. Woman has a hard life but deserves more, all men are doucebags except that handsome one who's charmingly perfect and falls for her. How many of those are made per year?

Sherlock Holms TV series. Something happened, he went to solve it. How many do we need? People still want it.

For example, I don't like horror. You can sell me a million variants of horror and I won't like any of them. People who like exorcism will keep watching. Just like I'll watch any sci-fi even if the same subject of time travel got spewed out 6 times in a year.

Everyone's different, just because you find it repetitive, others might quite enjoy the same theme with different approach.

I kinda agree with you, and that's why I made this post: to know what people think about it.

I love supernatural horror films but I grow weary of exorcisms as they appear in too many horror movies. The idea is great when it is seldom used but when it is shoehorned into too many movies it loses the power to shock.

I felt Deliver us From Evil and The Conjuring might've been better without the de rigueur exorcism scenes.

I really liked this film and thought it was very effective... until the last 20 min or so. so sick of good horrors decending into an exorcim scene! its what ruined the Conjuring for me as well!

THE LAST EXORCISM: 7/10
THE LAST EXORCISM PART II: 3/10
THE RITE: 3/10
THE DEVIL INSIDE: 2/10
DELIVER US FROM EVIL: 1/10 (could've been 0)

reply

Totally agree on these ratings. Deliver Us from Evil was awful.

I prefer the same old story if is a good movie and this was a good one for my taste. I enjoyed the mystery, the atmosphere. I am actually sick of new movies, I rarely find something that tempts me and is new because they try to make something different and the outcome is something totally unejoyable. So I prefer to watch something that is a cliche and that I enjoy then something stupid and "original". All movies now repeat other ideas because there are so many movies, what someone could come with original?!
PS: I gave it an 8, well deserved
