6 episodes in, still not sold, should I finish?

I really want to like this series. Counting this time, it makes my 3rd freaking time to give it another shot.
Now I'm 6 episodes into the first season and it kills me to be so frustated with the show until now. Even Walking Dead is not as frustrating. So are the following 4 episodes worth my time? Especially with 2nd Season daredevil out...

possible ***Spoilers***

And anyoneelse feeling the same?
I mean sometimes the story feels like a bad soap opera. The big drama concerning Jessica and Cage is just *beep* stupid. It would have been so much more easier if she just told him everything about Killgrave and his former wife. They would fight together, trash him and then get to more literally *beep*
This "plan" of theirs to kidnapp Killgrave in episode 5 was just ludicrous. Isn't it the first thing to check for some kind of tracker? Killgrave isn't stupid. And then she get's hold in check by a couple of guys with tasers? Comeon, a couple minutes before she threw two gorillas like a basketball through the air and now she can't even defend herself against them. This is just poor screenwriting.
And I can't even remember why I had to stop and take week long breaks after 2nd and 4th episode.

TV should never be a chore. If you don't like it, skip the rest.

Says you...

We sure know what kind of "consumer" you are now...

Do you enjoy trying anything (i.e food) that is outside of your comfort zone?

I think I know the answer...and sadly your behavior, which I get reasons for one feeling, contributes to the dumbing down of entertainment and art, poorly written remakes and lack of creativity in Hollywood.

Disclaimer: I haven't even seen the show

Can you make a decision on your own?

If not, then punch yourself.

Due to the lack of moderators, trolls can ruin the IMDB message boards. Don't feed them.

If your halfway through then finish it its getting better you won't feel disappointed

I almost quit watching after the failed kidnapping too. There just seems to be really lazy writing as so many stupid things happen just to drag out the season. One punch to the jugular with her superhuman strength, during the police station scene, before he wiped the video is just one example. He's dead and she has the proof she needed. Her strength doesn't really add anything to the show.

I finally made it through the entire season but can't say I'd recommend the show.

reply

Except she had no idea if Killgrave had told people to Kill themselves if Jessica harmed him.

reply

Good point but she seemed to be forsaking everyone to prove Holly's innocence over anything else anyway. She had opportunities to kill him numerous times but chose not to only to prove her innocence and a lot of people died as a result who didn't need to.

The acting and everything else is good - just got frustrated with the choices being made throughout the show.

reply

Yeah never understood Jessicas personality. There is so many weird choices she takes that I can't connect with her at all and she seems like a person nobody wants to be associated with.
Seems to me like most opinions are negative. Then why is this series so "popular" or critical acclaimed?
Btw I gave it another shot, since after binge watching Daredevil 2nd season (which was awesome) and wanting to know the cross references, but couldnt get past the 7th episode. Now it died for me completely, I will read a summary somewhere and that's it.

reply

I think people just really want to like it. I know that was the case with me. They assembled a good cast and seemed to have a good budget but I think the writing was bad. Just my opinion.

Accidentally called her 'Holly' above and it should have been 'Hope'.

I did check out Daredevil as a result and really liking it so far. Now I see the Rosario Dawson/Claire connection.

It's purposely designed to be confusing early on so as more information is revealed, you really understand who Jessica is as a person along with everyone else. If you go back at the end and re-watch some of those early episodes, they're much more enjoyable the second time through.

It's too late for me, but save yourself and quit now.

I put myself through the torture of watching this show drag it's ass across the finish line and it didn't do me any good. I guess I was waiting for that final moment where I'd be surprised or convinced and I suppose I held some form of hope that the ending would save it but I was left dissappointed. Without spoiling too much Everything goes to plan in the end and they live a relatively happy life with the exception of one character sacrificing themselves for the greater good and to be honest by that time you're too tired to gave a crap about that character's life anymore so no harm done

Is anyone liking this series for the story? Since like you stated, they dragged it thin until it completely evaporated. And no character is likeable, so that I want to stick with them.
Thanks for the advice, Jessica Jones Season 1 is now dead.

Is anyone liking this series for the story?

The story? NO!
Honestly I thought it was a freak'in disaster.
I gave the series a 7 only because I'm a liberal and didn't want it to fail too hard and have feminism, LGBT and interracial romance be blamed.
I had it rated 4 but changed it to higher once I saw other dumping on it for the wrong reasons.
Truthfully the series is a 6 at the very best.
I still like the first 3 shows but after that it crashed and burned.
Melissa Rosenberg took a great story that was Alias and crapped all over it.

I personally thought this was just as good as Daredevil series... There were some weird choices and plot holes, but I was able to overlook them. Watched the whole series on a sick day so maybe that had something to do with it...

I kind of agree, I finished the season but it is full of stupid people, a lot of things is down just to people having below average intelligence and can only be described by it. Jessica is a selfish bitch, she has many chances to kill Kilgrave but opts to try and save Hope not caring about the actual danger she puts so many others.

reply

Im only onto episode four but I feel similarly. This shows seems really slow paced but not in a good way. Whilst the characters do have some kind of depth it isnt really that deep and does feel sop operaish at times. I dont dislike this show I do Enjoy it for the most part but it doesnt seem anywhere near the level the ratings seem to suggest.

reply

I agree with you. I finished, but the entire first season was meh to me. Killgrave was the only thing I liked really. As for the show Jessica would drink a lot, sleep with a guy, drink some more and repeat. It did feel like a real cheesy Soap Opera
