What's up with that Paige?

That he saw her twice after a few years...
Was she suppose to lure kids too or something?

reply

I wish someone would write a synopsis for this movie because I don't know who Paige is/was.

that was the hitchiker girl he gave a ride to
and than i think a few years later when he was on the road looking for his daughter he saw her again at the same place looking for a ride again
so i don't understand what's the point of that, of her character

Was that the same girl?!
I don't think it was tbh but we know what was with her. If you paid attention to the movie it is stated that he drives around keeping an eye out for his daughter.
So, by using logic it makes sense that with all the driving he does he slows down to help hitchhikers he spots on the slight chance that one may end up being Cass.

Page was excellently insinuated. For example, at first we think maybe Matthew himself is an abductor. After all, we hear the cops talk about it, then see this guy driving a truck picking up children. But later, after we learn Matthew is a decent man who lost his child to an abductor, he passes Page and slows down, perhaps confused why she doesn't want a ride. Is it because people are in more alert due to an abduction? Or is it him? Do people in town think he's a child trafficker? Or perhaps he felt so scared for her because she's all alone on a road, and he just thinks it's not right. Complex great scene.

i agree, but think there may be one other option to add to your list. the first time he saw her, he picked her up. the second time he saw her, he didn't - possibly because he recognized her and has ruled out the possibility it's Cass?

i loved the fact that he waited until she got into the house safely. but could definitely have been a creepy thing if he *were* the abductor. you're right, excellently insinuated.

have you tried that crazy wrap thing?! http://erinleighmckenzie.myitworks.com

I agree. He has been driving around looking for her (just like his wife said earlier in the movie). He sees a young girl wanting a ride, so he makes sure that this one makes it safely to her destination (even watching until she safely gets into the house, which is something I always do myself when dropping people off, as you never know if the door is locked or they misplaced their key, etc.)

The 2nd girl wasn't hitch-hiking. But he slows down and I believed he was looking to see if it was his daughter, always looking, always checking. But it wasn't. And she didn't want a ride, so he kept driving on, almost in pain that he keeps looking but hasn't ever found her yet.

I dont know about the rest of you, but i never got the vibe that Matthew was abducting people, just being an overall nice guy.

reply

it wasn't even the same girl, the one that he doesn't pick up was way way prettier

I really believe that the purpose of the Paige character is to demonstrate that Matt really misses his daughter and whenever he sees a girl about the same age, he relates to her and feels somehow depressed but with faith that he might see her again...

I don't think it's a plot device to make the audience think he might be an abductor; I think it is just a way to generate an emotional connection between the audience and Matt.

Hate is baggage, life's too short to be pissed off all the time.

And who in the actual hell, hitch hikes in that kind of weather?
