Wasn't bad, but needed a better director

I'm not getting into is this or isn't it a faith based movie. I'm basing this on is it a good movie or not.

There's a movie from the 80's, The Idolmaker. I'm a big fan of that movie. The Identical needed to have a little more Idolmaker to it.

I didn't have a problem with the acting. I think the cast was fine.

The plot was ok. It's basically what is there were two Elvis Presleys and one grew up to be Elvis and one was raised to be a preacher. It's a good concept.

The movie just doesn't totally work. The music was a little weak. I didn't care for the songs. They felt too corny. I actually would've liked to have seen Drexel and Ryan sing slightly different, so when Ryan is the identical, it's more of a struggle cause he's singing as Drexel, not himself. Nothing drastic, but like if Drexel has more of an Elvis sound and Ryan was more Johnny Cash. I think that would've added a little more to the characters. I didn't like how Drexel dressed though. All of the floral patters were very corny. I would think Drexel would be cooler than that. Ryan's clothes when he was The Identical were horrendous.

I also didn't get why Rywn didn't start a band or start singing after he left the ministry. I thought that was the point of him leaving, but he just takes a job as a delivery man.

I don't know though. Something was missing from the movie to make it really good. Maybe it was rushed. That we didn't have enough time to get to know Ryan. The story moved too fast, with too much time passing to really get to know Ryan.

It wasn't a bad movie though. I'm fine with coincidences and things seeming too unbelievable, but most books or movies are like that. Forrest Gump is like that, but it's a great movie.

The Identical is worth checking out. And all the people bashing the movie because of any Christian connection is just silly. I heard they might do a Sam Kinison biopic and he was the son of a preacher. He was a minister for a while. So there would be some Christianity in the movie. Doesn't mame it a faith based movie.

Tolkien was very religious and embedded a lot of Catholic themes into LOTR yet when they made a Tolkien film, they removed all of that.

I didn't even know it was categorized as a Christian film. It was recommended as a 'what if' Elvis scenario that I found intriguing.

It was an ok film, entertaining actually, but I agree, sow thing was missing. Twins tend to have similar personalities but their background also has a big impact on who they will be. This would've been better if they at least showed some differences between them, like your example Drexel as Elvis and Ryan as Cash. I wondered why he continued to style his hair and dress like Drexel when he wanted to be his own man with his own songs. They should've had him express that individuality a bit more. Also another poster mentioned that the plot could've been more interesting if the twins had met. And I agree. This is a fantasy film, so why not go all the way?
