Nearly teared up towards the ending of the michael

Richards episode you can really tell he is a sensitive person and just reacted angrily everyone in the world had done it before maybe not too that extent.

reply

Agreed. And also I got the feeling Jerry wasn't exactly comfortable going down that road but my guess is Michael Richards thinks about it every day and is a huge part of his life.

It's a really sad end to his otherwise magnificent career. And I don't believe he deserves the hate.

reply

I agree. It was a one time outburst caused by a couple of drunk/loud people that played the race card. They act like this was buried deep down inside him all along.

All parties involved acted poorly, but Richards certainly didn't provoke that incident. Did he react poorly? You beat your a$$ he did. But that didn't make a good story so they had to make it sound like he just went off unprovoked when that's not even remotely close to what happened.

Does anyone even remember the name of the two black men that were behaving poorly? No. Does everyone remember Richards' reaction to it? Hell yes they do.

reply

Is there a video where we can hear what the two hecklers said, before Richards wen't off?

reply

I don't know. Probably.

I do remember when it first happened all the videos just showed his reaction. Then I remember seeing more of the video once the story died down and I remember thinking "Why didn't they show this stuff earlier?"

Doesn't justify what he said, but those two drunken hecklers were far from innocent that night.

I don't think you know what the term "race card" means or how to use it. How did THEY play the race card when Richards was the one who hurled the racial epithet? What are they supposed to say at that point? What was ANYONE in the audience to supposed to say? It was caught on video. Richards called the the n word several times. Hecklers are a part of the stand-up comedy experience at some point in a comic's life. Fortunately the majority of comics don't go off on a racist rant and torch their own careers. Not even Nick DiPaolo, who's a well known right winger, would have done something so stupid. If anything it was Richards who played the race card and the media ran with it.

I don't think Richards is a racist. I think he thought he was being funny in a reactionary way but that's a pretty taboo word. One of the most powerful in the english language that can start a serious war. Had Richards been some D level comic actor, it would have been forgotten about in a week. But he was a cast member of show that was voted the funniest sitcom ever at the time. So now he has to wear that for the rest of his life. Hopefully it won't overshadow his career forever but no one will soon forget it.

I think I'm using it perfectly. Did you ever see what happened just before the outburst? The two drunk guys were being loud and heckling him. But later on they played the race card by saying they were behaving and being called that word made them very sad. Suddenly they were 6 years old and had their "feelings" hurt.

How did THEY play the race card when Richards was the one who hurled the racial epithet?

Again, they played the race card by provoking an incident then playing the victim b/c of........dun dun DUH...their race.

If anything it was Richards who played the race card and the media ran with it.

And you say I have no idea how to use the term "race card" properly? LOL

I don't think Richards is a racist.

I don't either. I think he reacted poorly to a couple of annoying drunks, who happened to be black. This is yet another example of EVERYONE INVOLVED ACTING POORLY. But they only focus on Richards b/c it's a better story.

reply

Nah. You're not using the term correctly at all. Richards got heckled. It happens to comedians since the beginning of comedians...nothing new. Richards chose to use a derogatory term, and black (and a lot of white, brown, whatever) people took offense. Now, you contend that since the people were offended because Richards called them a derogatory term is playing the race card. Are you sure you can't see how stupid that sounds? If Richards had used a derogatory term to a Chinese or brown person, and those people were offended would that also be playing the race card, or is that only reserved for blacks?
Playing the race card would be if Richards didn't shout derogatory words and had them removed from the club by security, and those people complained to anyone listening that the only reason they are getting kicked out is because they are black (and not because they were actually loud a-holes). That would be playing the race card.
Once again, you don't get to hurl derogatory insults to people because you are getting heckled...ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE A COMIC!
Just wondering. Would you say the same thing if instead of a couple of black hecklers it was a couple of gay guys heckling Richards, and Richards yelled the derogatory term for gays that we all know. Would you say the gays had played the gay card? So yah, you don't understand the term at all - or you do and don't care.

He looked kinda sad. I was sad to see that sad expression
I love "Seinfeld". No one came up with anything remotely as funny on TV! And there’s the man who’s made me laugh for 9 years(Kramer) and still makes me laugh 15 years later! And he’s sitting there telling Jerry about that comedy club episode and he’s got an honest and sad expression in his face. I cried. It’s very sad to see how a brilliant actor can be ruined by a mistake.

The guy has been punished enough. He doesn't deserve to have his career and life ruined.
