What do Ubbe and Hvitserk excel at?
Ubbe has some mad axe-throwing skills -- rescuing his little brother and showing off to the Indians come to mind.
Ubbe seems to be the most mature and level headed of them and also inherits Ragnar's spirit of adventure and lack of interest in being king, so you could say he's the one that continues Ragnar's legacy while the others become different things.
As for Hvitserk, he's the most sensitive and loyal of them, you could say it's taking one of his brothers' side what leads him to betray another brother. He cannot be on his own like the others, he needs someone or something to fight for that is not himself.
Good take. Probably why Hvitserk converts at the end.
