I disliked Katie intensely throughout all of the show except in her final scene when Stella shows her mercy and explains to her, as only Stella can, how Paul doesn't care for Katie at all and that Katie now has to fight to survive. I thought that was an amazing scene because Stella was the only one who got through to Katie. You could see Katie picking up what Stella was putting down. And I thought it was very touching that Stella cared enough to visit Katie and break it down for her. She didn't have to do that.

reply

Stella actually cares about people i am not suprised that she took the time to visit that poor little girl

reply

I agree. She had a very heightened compassion towards the victims throughout.

reply

more than trying to solve cases, she really try tospeak for the victims...

reply

ablack90, I totally agree, I only wish Stella had told her that she'd come back, instead of leaving so abruptly. That girl clearly has abandonment issues deeper than the ocean.

I only wish Stella had told her that she'd come back
That thought went through my mind also. Until I realized Stella has a clear understanding within herself on the balance she must strike between being compassionate towards victims and stepping back out of their lives. Because she is a detective not a counsellor and she'd get burned out super quickly if she tried to solve all the victims' issues. These detectives see so many victims throughout all their cases. Hopefully the system has enough counsellors in place for Katie and they don't really show us what her mother is like. Katie has to take ownership of her will to fight to survive, which means accepting help that's offered to her. I was continually struck by Stella's understanding of what she could, and what she could not, do. This was part of her skill-set which blew me away throughout the whole series.

I agree, but what I don't like about that scene is it's so unrealistic. Paul didn't create her issues, she had those issues with or without Paul he just exacerbated things. As a matter of fact he wanted her gone! But since she wouldn't go away, he was like "what the hell, I'll have fun with her"

Kids like her need years of therapy and counseling. One conversation doesn't fix them... unfortunately. She's very highly capable of murder herself. And yes she has her issues and to some extent I pitied her, but a dad who loves his motorcycle enough that it killed him is no excuse to turn violent, not saying any excuse is, but at least Paul's excuse was a lot more serious. In my perspective she just seems like a spoiled child who didn't get her way. In a way that's more dangerous than Paul, because at least at some point in time he was a normal child capable of living an ordinary life. For her it took something much more.... mundane? (I'm trying to use my words carefully, because no kid should ever have to lose a parent. And I don't mean to minimize her grief. Grief is rough. But most people don't partner up with serial killers because their parents died in a car crash) He started with a conscience and his heart was darkened by evils in the world. Lots of kids have parents who ride, my dad rode, and I used to ride as well. And yes my mother worried about him as so did my wife when I used to, because biking is more dangerous than a car, but it's not like it's drugs. You are in danger the moment you wake up in he morning. You could choke on a mint or piece of steak, trip, fall and break your neck, etc. you don't live your life petrified of every second. That's not how anyone should live. Katie, reminded me of a "Deadly Women" episode on ID. One of them a young girl convinced her much older boyfriend to help her kill her parents, and the episode explains how even as a child she showed obvious signs of a disturbing personality. She would scream and throw the biggest tantrums if anything and everything wasn't about her and any parent isn't going to see that as an early warning sign because children do that sometimes. Doesn't mean they will grow up to be killers, unfortunately it's hard to tell the difference. Katie reminded me of that girl. She was already emotionally unstable long before Paul came into her life. One conversation won't fix that. I wish it did, but it doesn't.

She's very highly capable of murder herself.

Anyone is capable of murder. Katie struck me as capable and willing. If she does not stabilize it is a safe bet that she will mimic Paul later on, perhaps killing to "honour his legacy" (maybe starting with Rose, who she might hold responsible for ratting on her "boyfriend" and indirectly making him kill himself). That is, if she does not kill herself first for what she perceived as a "double betrayal" (her father's "suicide" and her second "daddy"'s real suicide).

But Stella didn't get through to her. Did you see and hear her reaction when she knew something was up with Paul?

reply

What a stupid girl.... "Paul's the only one who's honest" made me lol

reply

She played Katie so well.

When I was her age(15/16), part of me could relate to her but not to that extreme.

reply

Only the actress' real age is a problem, particularly in season 3 when she is freaking 23.

Da-ddy when doos this aw-ful show end?

reply

I hated her for a moment, then took a step back and realized how psychologically damaged she was. I realized hating a character like that would actually cause me to miss out the over all point of her character. She was abused by a murderer and also had her own other demons. I'm happy I was able to refrain from just hating her

reply

Couldn't agree with you more @PvtRoland

reply

Cannot stand this character whatsoever. Can she please go away? She's annoying.

reply

She represented the 50 Shades of Grey fans who are obsessed with Jamie Dornan 

reply

She was horrible. I do understand that she was a very troubled youth, but that doesn't explain or justify why she almost stalked Paul in the first place, and after some time suspected he actually was the strangler and still wanted to be with him and protect him. Even hurt other people to please him. Some children and teenagers actually are not nice at all, and this one is among them.
