is Callie one of the dumbest main characters in all of television?

thoughts?

reply

No, why? She ran away from a guy who kidnapped her. Then she heared that her brother is in hospital and put this first. Then she went to police. Maybe it's possible to act smarter but dumb is a bit harsh. There is not guide to handle a kidnapping, an accident and a family tragedy simultaneous.

reply

I agree.

Whenever there's a TV show that involves teenagers (Foster, Switched at Birth, PLL, Roswell), people are always so harsh and quick to judge. I think people forget these are shows about kids. Kids do stupid things. They panic. They make bad decisions. They tend to be VERY selfish and self-centered. Their emotions get out of control. It's all pretty normal stuff. I often wonder if all the critics got through their teen years without doing stupid things or if they simply forgot their own mistakes. I think most of what we've seen on this show is pretty normal stuff.

reply

If she was an adult yes but she is still a teen so no she isn't that bad. At least she did make a call.

reply

I haven't seen many TV characters who is as dumb, unwise, and is always in center of nearly every bad thing going on, as Callie.

What's worse, is that she is a very unlikable character. The writers think they are creating a character that people can sympathize with. I have none for someone who continuously plays the victim and has the heart of a true coward. That's Callie. Utterly pathetic.

reply

I like her very much. She is obviously not a coward, she stands up for other people and for the things she believes in.

reply

Yes. Yes she is.

And her being a teenager has nothing to do with it. Just reckless and dumb.

reply

Yeah. We were teenagers too. We weren't that dumb. I suppose.

reply

She does a lot of dumb stuff that even I, as someone close to her age, would have to call her out on. I don't blame her for getting in the car or running for etc but I do
Blame her for signing anything without going through it with a parent or lawyer first, she just incriminated herself

reply

Yeah the fleeing the scene I have no issue with, she was essentially kidnapped and in fear for her life. I was concerned with her after escaping, she seemed to be unconcerned with letting any adults whatsoever know that she just fled an accident because she was kidnapped and/or in fear for her life/safety. Even when she ultimately went to the police, that seemed to be on the back burner.

But I have never met a teen that dumb in general, making mistake after mistake like she does. "Having a good heart" is useless and meaningless in situations like she's in.

reply

The thing is Callie called 911 to where that guy never did.

911 has her call recorded to back her story up. He has nothing to back his.

reply

He never said he called 911. He told the police that Callie called 911 and then ran off which is what happened. Unless a witness comes forward and confirms that he was coming after her after he got out of the car its his word against hers.

reply

The main problem I have with Callie isn't that she continually makes impulsive and idiotic decisions that have hurtful consequences for many people. My problem is that she never listens to people when they try to guide her away from making these idiotic decisions. She's very stubborn and always thinks she knows better than the more experienced and mature adults around her. As soon as she was brought into the station for questioning, she should have contacted one of her mothers or Brandon's dad and refused to answer any questions without one of them being present or a lawyer being provided. She is not new to the system, she knew better. It's this kind of hard headedness that frustrates me about the character.

I finally figured it out in the last few episodes. Callie is what someone written off as a "social justice warrior" would be like in real life if they actually followed through on their thoughts rather than just complained about them on social media, and she reaps the consequences of running headlong into righting every wrong without thinking things through first to see if they're really true. She'd be a lot of fun to be around in college.
