I like Michael Chiklis but...

is it just me that it's weird taking him as an Italian mobster? He plays a bad guy great, but I just don't see him as an Italian...maybe it's just me?

Brooklyn accent not enough? You want him to put golf balls in his mouth like Don Corleone?

reply

ha ha the accent is good enough for me and he does a great job on the show

The show indicates he's not a 'made man', probably because he's not Italian. Not to mention that he's from Chicago where the only accent is fast speaking.

reply

I like Michael Chiklis too and I am trying hard to believe him being an Italian mobster but so far all I get is Curly Howard. Nyuk Nyuk I like the Savino role though (maybe for someone else).

Counting cards is just bad manners. Vincent Savino

reply

I am able to get past the ethnicity. He is the best part of the show. I really had lots of trouble with this show in the first few episodes but Chiklis was strong from the start. I'm glad he kept me watching because the show has improved in every way.

reply

Well his character is from Chicago so he wouldn't have a Brooklyn-esque accent that you're used to with Gangsters from this era that you've seen in movies/tv.

He wasn't bad on No Ordinary Family. Of course it's hard to live up to Vic Mackey, that's a once in a career role. Most actors on TV don't have roles that can live up to Vic Mackey.

reply

One of his first notable roles was as an Italian - Tony Scali in The Commish.

But yeah, all of "the Italians" are the biggest group of Un-Italian Italians I've ever seen.

If you can't walk and talk/text at the same time, do the rest of us a favor and get out of the way.

It's hard to think that a 1960's era italian mafioso has a shaved head, but it is what it is.

reply

I really like him in this but not much else on the show. And the most recent episode where a woman he had an affair with begins working in the casino left me pretty cold.

reply

I do like Michael Chilkis since he is a great actor but the show is a bit of a drag.

reply

And what's an Italian supposed to look like? Some stereotype, dripping with grease and gold chains?

My Italian family, full of tall blonds and redheads with blue and green eyes, always laugh at 'medigans' and what they think Italians HAVE to look like.

reply

the erason its hard to take him as an Italian Mobster...is because he isn't playing an Italian Mobster.

in a recent episode, they said he is Irish, and that is why he will never be a "made" man.

He is an Irishman, working for Italians.

reply

to be exact, it was said at the end of episode 11 by Johnny Rizzo, around minute 40 (if you cut out the commercials)

reply

If his last name is "Savino," then it means he's half-Irish, maternally speaking.
"May I bone your kipper, Mademoiselle?"

reply

He said that he was _partially_ Irish so that means he has one of the parents from Italy (or Ital/American) hence the name.

reply

Yes, he's half Irish, half Italian. That's why he'll never be a made man. You have to be fullblood.

"I love you as I know you. Because I know you. As you are. Good and bad. Better and worse."
