Ridiculous Writing?

I am just starting (and probably stopping) to watch this series.

In Series 1, Episode 5, Jillian is trying to get a hold of Caroline on the phone and reaches the younger of Caroline's children (Lawrence) who promptly says "she's had to rush someone into hospital".

As I understand it Caroline has an administrative job and does not moonlight as a paramedic....so this would seem to indicate the likelihood of someone close to the family in seriously bad straights.

But Jillian, apparently not caring who or why, then essentially just leaves a message acting is if she was just told Caroline went out for a loaf of bread.

WTF?

Maybe you should stop watching TV altogether.

If you think this show has ridiculous writing you are exactly what is wrong in this world. Go watch pretty little liars maybe that show has better writing for you

I watch pretty little liars and I'm deeply offended by your statement.

I guess inane responses like this and others ITT show how little good writing matters. Why would it when this is the intellect of the audience?

Nice job addressing the substance of the post.

What jillian.diamond says. Also, Gillian generally isn't the Queen of Appropriate Responses. She's so caught up in her own drama and insecurities that it's hard for her to really attend to what's happening around her.

That said, the writing on the show has changed -- it now has elements of farce. That's okay with me because I love the characters, adore the acting, and can't wait to see what this cast will do with whatever new lines they're given.

Meryl Streep is a shape-shifter.

Ridiculous writing because of that (which is a stupid point btw) bore off.. Why should she care who or why Lawrence would tell her the name if it was anything to do with Gillian.

reply

I think it was just a matter of timing and veering of the gist of the call. The episode ran over 59 minutes and they didn't need...

Who? What happened?

Dad's alkie friend broke glass and fell on it.

Is she going to be ok?

I think so.

Besides, if Gillian knew that she might tell John and he might have left, ending the plotline of what happened between them that night.

I don't think the writing is ridiculous.

But I did start a thread amazed that anyone would "share" anything with Cecilia in regards to personal information. Twice now she has blabbed to other people causing problems.

I'm in Season 2 and now Alan has just shared with her(after Cecilia just caused problems talking about Gillian's abortion at 15), how Eddie died. Why would you do this? Clearly she is a woman you don't tell deep dark secrets to.

Sorry, in real life once you know someone can't keep a secret or causes problems you don't continue telling them things.

reply

I have issues with the writing but if that's scene is what troubles you, I'd say you have an empathy deficiency.

Gillian probably doesn't even really hear the reply. Try to put yourself in her shoes. It's her birthday, it's all gone to hell thanks to John and she's trying to warn someone she considers a friend that the shit is going to hit the fan in a massive way about a huge secret she was keeping from her mom.
Besides, hospitals doesn't mean anyone is in grave danger. Someone could have a cut that needed stitching for example. It's nighttime. The ER is the only available medical assistance.
