Why was Mary's wedding dress red?

reply

The simplest answer, without meaning to be stupid about it, is "Why Not?" I thought she looked absolutely beautiful. The moment the doors opened she looked like I imagine everybody would want to look on their wedding day. Beautiful but most of all Happy. She looked oh so bloomin' happy. Too many people look miserable on their wedding day, too self conscious or ungrateful. Mary just looked radiant. Happy is always a good look.

This is a really sweet, charming movie.

Yes, Richard Curtis writes characters who do not exist in London/modern England and yes, there are other niggles but you put all that aside when you consider it is a film about time travel.

The relationship between Tim and his Dad is beautifully done.

She was already pregnant at the time so she was not "pure / innocent", which the white wedding dress conveys. Many women traditionally do not where a white dress for 2nd marriages; same if they are known to be pregnant.
