Why does he go where bullies are waiting?

Why can't he avoid and take another route? It seems like middle of nowhere anyway, no road, nothing.

That made no sense to me either. Why wouldn't his mother demand to know who the bullies were that broke his camera also. If someone beat up my handicapped kid and broke his camera there would be something being done about it.

He didn't have a mother in the movie and his father was sick and dying.If you were refering to Christine Lahti's character ,she was only his boss.

Exactly. Where he lived, everywhere was nowhere. There was only one place: nowhere. Hence, the nowhere feeling of the film...
