I'll probably get sh$t for actually enjoying the movie, but I thought it was really good. I kept thinking abou how I would feel to find out my husband was a serial killer and how I would react. I read the novella, enjoyed the movie and love everything that's attached to SK. He's my favorite.
Agreed. We're kind of in a minority here but like you said, the movie made me wonder what would I do if I were her and think about all the people who have been in this situation. Good cast too.
Totally agree! Low-key, well-acted character pieces often doesn't get praise these days, but that's only because the culture has the volume turned too high (so to speak).
I thought King did a really good job here. The only criticism I would aim at the film is that, unlike the job I'm sure David Fincher has done on GONE GIRL, A GOOD MARRIAGE wasn't particularly visually interesting. However, that did not detract from the suspense, or overall thoughtfulness of the piece.
Not as nasty a piece of work as the novella, for reasons I do understand, but a faithful, and very worthwhile, little film.

I liked some of it,and that's probably why it's not getting that much attention, besides having two good well-known character actors in the lead. It also didn't come off like your typical heavy-handed Stephen King movie, either. If it was a straight-up slasher flick with more gore and a loud, blaring top-40 soundtrack, and starred the latest hot young up-and-coming Hollywood ingenues, it would be getting a heck of a lot more attention. The low-keyness of it definitely made it a little more creepier, too.
I agree. The main criticisms that I can see are that it wasn't a horror/slasher flick and if you've actually READ the novella would realize that isn't the point. And, that isn't what King does. He's much more layered. This also is a difficult one to adapt, because a lot goes unsaid. It's the imagination..and that is true for the vast majority of his works. LaPaglia was a little too creepy and Allen overacted..but not the worst of the adaptations. They are legion. It rang true up until the last 1/2 hour. But, you have this seemingly perfect life and you find out your husband is a serial killer and if you turn him in...well. Everything was well ordered ...down to the pennies. Down to the perfect kids and the perfect wedding. Perfect makeup. Perfect clothes. No real friends. She was as obsessive and 2 faced (just like the coins) as he was. What do you do?
I wanted to like it. I love Anthony LaPaglia and was anxious to see him in a new flick. It was ok, but could have been so much better. Not bad, just kind of ho-hum.
SK is one of my favorites too. When I read the story I tried to put myself in her place. I also thought about all of the things I know about my spouse and all of the little things I don't know and may never know. Anyway, I also enjoyed the movie. I could pick apart little things about it because I enjoyed the written story a bit better, but I didn't find the film to be as bad as some would say it is. As you said,
I liked it
