I like this so much better than Alphas

I watched Alphas once and it was boring and I didn't care about anyone in it. I would've actually watched this if they'd picked this pilot instead. But probably no one else would've I've always picked the wrong shows.

Id trade Alphas for this.Alot of stuff I like gets cancelled too.

I liked this better than Alphas too. It was a bit wittier with much better writing. Highly unlikely Syfy will run two similar shows though.

reply

Yeah I'm sure they were just burning off a pilot I had to do an internet search to find out what it even was. But I liked it. It was fun. And I'll never watch Alphas.

reply

Well the problem is that there have just been too many super-power shows and movies recently. As is often the case, once one thing gets popular (eg Heroes), then everybody jumps on the bandwagon, saturating (and ruining) the genre/topic.

In my opinion, Heroes started well, but like Lost it turned into garbage, Alphas is utter rubbish to begin with, and No Ordinary Family was the best of the bunch.

reply

I hope you meant to say that No Ordinary Family started out good, but then was the best of the bunch to just throw everything out of the window and make some of the worst TV episodes I have ever seen outside of Nickelodeon? :P

The last 3 or so (and especially the finale), must've been the baddest and most rushed episodes I have ever seen. It was like it was written by monkeys in feces. I couldn't even believe what I was seeing, it was so bad.
But I guess that is what happens when you get the notification of probably being axed, and the actors are already out auditioning for other roles...

NOF had a great idea, but executed extremely badly from the get-go. It never felt like they knew where they were going with the plot.

reply

You’re half right. I agree that the ending felt a little sloppy because like many shows that get cancelled but are given an opportunity to wrap up (ironically, supposedly for the sake of the viewers), they probably didn’t really care much anymore since they had nothing left to lose or invested with that show. Unfortunately they ended up leaving the ending as a cliffhanger, which I take to mean that the network still gave them a ray of hope despite giving them their walking papers.

i read somewhere about the similarity excuse, but syfy airs both being human and lost girl, which have about as much in common with each other as do 3 inches and alphas, so as usual, syfy can shuvvit.

I watch Alphas, but this was much more fun and entertaining. I kind of trudge through Alphas whereas I think this one would be more fun to watch. Maybe trade the Asian girl that didn't do much for Gary from Alphas and I would be good to go. Sure there were some big plot holes, but time just seemed to fly by in this one.

I'm with tankster25 on this. I do watch 'Alphas', but it isn't as though I'm enjoying it quite. Sometimes it's pretty good, but a lot of times I could just skip the week's episode until I've nothing else to watch. 'Three Inches' pulled me in right away. I want to know what happens in both shows, but in the case of 'Three Inches' I am actually disappointed I won't get to find out. I don't see it doing well as a half-hour show. They really should have given it a chance, maybe had audiences view both and give feedback before they made a decision.

Yeah, this series was much more well-executed than Alphas. Alphas actually made me laugh in a few places because of its implausibility.

It almost felt like a parody of those parodies of CSI, where they zoom in on a screw to see a reflection of a reflection in a car where they saw into a window and could see a blurry face and just press "enhance" and they could see who it was.

I really, really hope this series gets to continue, since it felt much more rooted in the real world and more of a character-driven drama.

I watched Three Inches last night and I agree, it was definitely better than Alphas.

The story was almost exactly the same, but the characters were infinitely more likable, not to mention that it was packed full of stars (well, “C- to B-list celebrities”, but still, more than Alphas has).

Also, the “super-powers” in Three Inches are much more believable than those in Alphas. It’s one thing for a program to have fantastical powers if it is presented as a fantastical program (eg comic books), but Alphas tries to be realistic, yet has ridiculous powers that would be silly and unrealistic even in a comic book.

SyFy really should have greenlit Three Inches instead of Alphas. After having watched the whole season, the only part that was the least bit interesting was the last five seconds of the season when he exposed them to the public, but then Sanctuary did the same thing a couple of episodes ago, so that renders Alphas completely useless.

I thought Alphas was OK, until I saw this. In a drought, even a muddy puddle is a welcome thing.

3 Inches is a much better, more endearing and believable premise than Alphas. Heroes was still better than Alphas even during it's difficult 'fairground' days.. Watch it again if you're not sure. Even though you know what's coming it's still more compelling than Alphas..

This show could be such a welcome shot in the arm for the genre. It looked like NOF was going to do this, it got way too complicated and the bad guy/worse guy scenario fell flat for me, and they seemed to be running out of ideas very quickly. While it was on I thought that it was developing way too fast to hold interest, and it I guess I was right.

Shame if they dont give 3" a chance, but very little decent programming gets a proper shot these days.

I was so bored with Alphas I couldn't get through a whole episode - and there were actors in it I like.

Much preferred this.

+1 to pretty much everyone. Enjoyed it. Sad to see SyFy could have optioned it for a series but chose Alphas instead. With its humor, I would have been a nice not replacement but more of a consolation prize to the finishing (read: cancellation) of Eureka.

Really well done. I like the lighter touch this has, the more human quality. There's something almost "Pushing Daisies" about it. Reminds me of the Subheroes, which was a fiction piece done by Sars from TV Without Pity. Very well constructed. The pilot shifted gears from warm and funny to dangerous operations smoothly. Good acting, good direction, good writing.
