Anyone else angry about the driving on drugs joke?

His joke about not looking out the front window for 25 minutes while driving on the highway really made me lose respect for him. His excuse for getting in the car was that he had to drive back to the hotel because he had a rental car (?!)

By saying that with no apology or disclaimer whatsoever, he basically broadcasted to everyone else that driving on drugs is an ok thing to do. Either he is a psychopath or desperate for material (or both?).

I lost a lot of respect for him after that.

Maybe he thinks his audience is smart enough to realize that actually doing such a thing is an irresponsible thing to do.

This is also the reason McDonald's has to label their coffee cups to notify customers that their coffee is hot because apparently not everybody knows coffee is hot.

By the amount of detail he went into, it was pretty obvious this was something that he actually did. My point is that by getting extremely stoned and driving his car on the highway is acting like a jackass.

If you aren't even self-aware enough to show any remorse for it, you are really a jackass of an entirely new level.

BTW, unrelated to the above, but regarding McDonald's coffee: http://www.lectlaw.com/files/cur78.htm

He's a comedian. He embellishes stories, makes things up, in fact. I don't know if he really drove high and neither do you. He has two daughters, has a TV show and is a millionaire. He has reasons to live for, is what I'm getting at. I seriously doubt a man his age is really doing stupid things like driving while high. It's just a joke.

reply

I'm know he did. It is ridiculous to think that his very detailed story about smoking the stuff, wigging out in front of the group he was with, deciding to drive to the hotel, wigging out on the highway, and then trying to order food at the drive-thru and speeding away is a complete fabrication. There is just too much to it to not have some basis in reality.

Do you know what being a millionaire is like? I don't, but from what I've seen, a lot of people in that situation do all kinds of reckless and stupid things, and then don't seem to recognize the err in their judgment.

reply

So you really believe he drove a car for 25 minutes without looking out the windshield? No one said the story was completely fake from beginning to end but it's obvious that he made up parts of it which, as I said, he has admitting to doing. There was even a bit in one of his other specials where he messed up on a story detail and then said "It doesn't matter 'cause I'm lying".

And, he's a comedian, he tells insane jokes, lighten up. And if you can't, don't watch his stuff any more. Picket him, heckle him, set up a tent outside his house and *beep* on his car.

His joke about littering while walking on the sidewalk really made me lose respect for him. His excuse for throwing a candy wrapper on the street was that he had to eat the candy because he needed it (?!)

By saying that with no apology or disclaimer whatsoever, he basically broadcasted to everyone else that littering on the street is an ok thing to do. Either he is a psychopath or desperate for material (or both?).

I lost a lot of respect for him after that.

(They're called jokes *beep*

Not the same thing, at all.

He exaggerates for humor and to make points. For example, he's said that all the stories he tells about his daughters being brats are extremely exaggerated and that they are actually very nice and polite. Regarding the driving joke, you're supposed to laugh at the ridiculousness of it. If you have a sense of humor, that is

That's the point at which you lost a lot of respect for him? You either don't understand this type of humor or simply don't understand stand-up comedy in general.

reply

Stop watching his shows! They're not for you.

The bit about him not looking at the front was more about it feeling like it was 25 minutes.
One of the effects of marijuana is that it distorts the perception of time that 30 seconds can feel like 30 minutes. That specific part was more about how the weed was affecting him negatively more than saying it's OK to drive on drugs.
The entire bit was more based on how smoking weed can take a turn for the worse if you don't have the tolerance. It's one of those things that are funnier if you've experienced something like it i.e. weed induced moments of anxiety, paranoia, and panic attacks. Going through stuff like that makes minutes turn into hours.

I kinda agree. Sure it was a bit and whatnot, but the fact that he didn't throw in a this was a bad idea in the driving part was a bummer for me.

The entire premise of the joke was that it was a bad idea. Good God, you people take everything so literally. Watch interviews with Louis dissecting his process, and you'll quickly find out most of the things he says are extremely exaggerated.

reply

It's a joke. People are (or at least should be) smart enough to know it's not ok to do something like that.
