What did you think of Optimus Prime's ability to fly?

It sure came in handy when he had to leave planet Earth.

I love the idea. I just wish they had established it sooner instead of it coming out of nowhere like when R2-D2 could suddenly fly.

The sword gave him flight power.

Are you being serious? Or just making stuff up? How can you tell that it gave him flight powers?

No, I'm serious. The sword gave Optimus flight power.

Didn't he start flying in revenge of the fallen? Now I have to watch again to be sure, but he did absorb/combine with Jetfire.

Whoa, I don't remember that. I watched a 4 too.

His flight ability from Jetfire was only temporary.

It's okay, but the thing is these films need more Autobots that can fly: Jetfire was the only plane Autobot, and I felt he needed to be around a little longer. We could do with the Aerialbots for TF5.

Crosshairs was flying too, technically on parachutes which was cool. But my point still stands.

There was that helicopter autobot voiced by Ken Watanabe. He flew.

Oh yeah, I forgot about him.

Still, serious plane Autobots would be nice.

It was Drift. He's a triple changer that also can transform into the Bugatti.

About Optimus suddenly flying to find the Creators was the result of poor writing. It didn't bother setting it up, resulting in being too convenient for him.

Didn't Optimus fly in the third movie? He got caught up in that net thing...

The whole thing is ridiculous.

Prime's Ability to fly in AOE was ill contrived. It was not even mentioned how he got the power...In the end of the movie he just decides and flies off.Could have used it throughout the fight in China..certainly better than riding a dinosaur(Grimlock...But that was cool to be honest).

Previous movies he had the power of flight, but that was more like a "Powerlink" with Jetfire's body parts which he used to have as his truck's trailer when not in use.But in AOE it was his own inherent ability to fly which was not hinted anywhere and came as a surprise.

Some say it was the sword that gave him the power and that is the only explanation we can hope to fit..and mind you they do show him change his shape(Transform) when he takes the sword.
But still they should have at least hinted that he had a newly found power before revealing to make it believable.
