Yes but first of all he was cartoonishly stupid, in a way few if any real people are.

Second, he's actually a completely unnecessary character, since Koba would have started the war whether he existed or not. All he did was add uncertainty and distrust to the relationship between Ceasar and the humans, and that ultimately played no part in the story.

I thought Carver was stupid but he kinda reminded me of a character in The Grey, very similiar character.

Yeah, but in 'The Grey', Diaz was only like that at first. But when he realized that Ottway really knows how to help everybody survive, he eased up and became a pretty cool guy and teamplayer to the end.

He was necessary because he alone had knowledge/experience operating the dam. That's why they were searching for it in the beginning. If they humans never showed up in Ape Forrest then Koba wouldn't have been set off.

I think you completely missed the point. We all have our Carvers and our Kobas.

In other words, the world is full of stupid people and that's why we can't have nice things. Someone always comes along and blows it for the rest of us.

I agree. Unless he was a family member or friend (doubtful), he's the kind of person I'd murder if he was a part of my survival group. Some people are just beyond stupid and a detriment to everyone else.

Why is everyone so anti-Carver? Can't everyone see that the apes are anti-human bigots, including Caesar and Maurice who undergo a certain redemption when they realize that not all humans are bad, and not all apes good?

This film is a masterpiece for being about apes and ape-centric, meaning that the whole story is from ape perspective, where the humans are side characters, aliens in a way who appear out of blue.

And what about Carver? WHAT did he actually do?

- Did he know there were apes in the forest? No, he was scared to the point where he s**t himself.

- Did he shoot the apes when he first saw them? No.

- Then, what did he do? He tried to calm them, making peaceful gestures.

- And what did the apes do? They made aggressive facial expressions, snarled at him, and finally started to approach him with a quick move.

- Did he start shooting at them, being that scared and thinking he was under an attack? No, he shot ONE bullet, and then cried for help.

- Did he make aggressive and victorious expressions after he shot Ash, meaning he was glad to do so? No, he was at the verge of breaking into tears.

- And what else is his crime? Trying to kill someone? No, smuggling a shotgun for the necessary defense in case of utmost need, since he was afraid of the apes and didn't trust them.

- Was he right not to trust them? Well, he was beaten to death by one despite promised to be left in peace and safety, although he never killed or tried to kill anyone.

Universal need to jump at Carver only after seeing 10 minutes of ape perspective, and not knowing anything about human perspective for 10 years, just means there are quite many people potentially a lot worse and more dangerous than Carver ever was.

What did Carver do?
I don't blame him for the things you say. Being scared, being surprised, shooting the first ape out of fear. I don't blame him at all for that stuff. Perfectly reasonable reactions.

It's his idiotic blaming of apes for the Simian Flu that is intolerably stupid and hateful. When the group heard him opine that this was all the ape's fault, that should have gotten him tied up in a tent or tossed off a cliff. Keri Russell's character should have said, "Are you really such an idiot that you would have blame the Avian Flu on the freaking BIRDS afterwards"?

It's not his fear or lack of trust that makes Carver so horrible. It's his unreasoned prejudice and hatred in blaming things that he KNOWS were caused by humans on another group. It's like the Nazis blaming all their problems on Gypsies and Jews.

Carver's hatred of the apes, especially given his lack of logic when trying to justify it, is a parallel for the world we live in now. This is why humans are doomed. There are Carvers everywhere.

But the HOSTILE APES were NOT? KOBA was a nymphomaniac racist, his entire DNA was..... Imagine if this were real life, your 1st priority, would be to place a lawn sign, saying "hate has no home here"....... Except, the apes would crush you and your "love is love" lawn signs! Carver was a HUMAN BEING, even Gary Oldman's character would've sided w/Carver and not act so ignorant, sucking ape ass, w/a lawn sign promoting "love lives here".......... A.O.C. is already on the apes sides...... She needs their votes, along w/all the Democrats!
