What the hell did I just watch?

It's not that I didn't pay attention, or that I "Didn't get it". Well, not in the classic sense of the plot going over my head. The plot was all over the place, and made no sense at the end. I think they had an idea and just didn't know how to execute it. It could have been a decent little movie had there been any kind of resolution or explanation of what was going on. They attempt to explain it, but it seems like there should have been an extra 20 minutes that ended up on the cutting room floor. It very much felt like key scenes were left out. It's too bad, because like I say, it could have been a decent movie on a low budget due to it's originality. If you want a "dreamlike" movie that doesn't explain itself or make much sense in the end, give it a watch. Just be warned that it has these issues going in.

It seems like the house gives the witch her power, and she's been there for a long, long time. We see this in the ancient pic of the witch with her consorts.

She entrances the people she chooses and they become enmeshed in a spell and get bewildered and lost in the cornrows that surround the property. Once bewitched, they end up becoming companions of the witch, and get absorbed into the spell of the house. Rose ended up becoming the companion of the witch, as did the other characters.

It's somewhat similar to the 70s movie Burnt Offerings. The plot is completely different, but in that movie also, the house bewitches and entraps people.
