It was boring. Why no one* admits that?

Don't get me wrong, I love the Coens. I've seen almost all of their movies and I like most of them. Even the less good ones are still 6/10 in my book. But I don't understand why this one is praised so much. High user rating and extremely high critics rating. I'd give it a 5/10.

Of course it's not bad in any sense. Coens can't do a honestly bad movie. The dialogues, the characters are O.K., good acting, nicely filmed etc., etc., I just don't know what to enjoy in this one. Little of Coen's black humour, little of funny situations, no tension, and the story is uninteresting.

"Why no one admits that?" --> this question wasn't meant for everybody. I'm sure half of the praisers are actually enjoyed it for whatever reason, but I'm also sure there's another half who didn't and acts like they did because it's the Coens and they look smarter enjoying an "art" movie.

*EDIT 2015.12.26.: English is not my first language. Incorrect word "noone" was fixed. It confused some people who didn't understand the point, and kept pointing it out for almost two years.

Yeah, it was. Would be less boring if the cute cat went with him everywhere, not getting lost.

Well since I wasnt bored I simply cant find myself agreeing with your base idea.
Im not going into the question good or bad movie because ultimatly thats a matter of taste.
Ist true this movie is so slow you can at times har the grass grow through the Screen, but the Thing for me was that I found it enjoyable to watch all of that, how ever Little there was, enjoyable to watch.

Quite possibly the stupidest and most narcissistic idea in the history of the human race is the idea that if somebody doesn't have the same opinion of a movie you like/hate, that other person doesn't ACTUALLY believe what they're saying, because how could somebody like/hate what you know is OBJECTIVELY good/bad? They've obviously got it wrong and are actually trying to impress their friends of get laid or get invited to cocktail parties.

So please stop it.

I have little interest in folk music (right down there with Improv as an entertainment option), but I LOVED this film. And I liked the musical performances.

It was dramatic with some very funny ironic situations and lines. Even when characters are being "out there" they are real. The Coens have a great ability with that.

Almost a nightmare movie like "After Hours". And the fact that it was 100% subjective storytelling from LD's point of view adds to the enjoyment for me.

Bravo!

"I slept with you and you're in love with my husband. What the hell am I supposed to do with that?"

I wouldn't describe it as boring but very insubstantial. I was interested in it as it was unfolding but couldn't believe it when the closing credits started. Only 1 hour 44 minutes with entire folk songs padding it out, a complete 10 minutes plus scene repeated, an irrelevant road trip.... did not nourish me. If it didn't have the Coen name no one would watch it. Those saying "But Dylan"...what about it? 30 seconds of early Dylan doesn't make this a Dylan biopic (however you want to pronounce it). The most dramatic element - the beating in the courtyard - well he was beat up because of his drunken heckling. He got what he deserved with few ongoing consequences.

Yes. It was boring to me too. But I guess I just wasn't into the story. It just wasn't interesting to me.

It's time for a backlash against digital photography, motion pictures, music, sfx
