The money trail...

Trying to figure out the money...

He owes Lee $200k
He owes Neville $60k

He gets Frank to give him $260k

He gets Lee to give him $150k which he gives to Lamar.

So now...
He owes Lee $350k (orig 200 + 150)
He owes Neville $60
He owes Frank $260k

He takes Franks $260 and doubles it on the game so he's got $520k

Gives Neville his $60k

So he's got $460k left and doubles it on roulette so he's had $920k and walks away.

Chen takes his $350, Frank his $260....$310k left

So the 'cream' he left with Frank was $310k?? Am I missing something here?

nice break down of the money. the money trail is like the rest of the movie: it goes nowhere, just runs in circles. wahlberg was death as a protagonist, the center of the film was a giant hole in the donut which is why the film is a stink bomb!

reply

he's asking about the money trail and you come in here with your negativity about the movie? you're a huge idiot

best part of about it? his mother gives him money and he feels that she is the only one he doesn't need to pay back. disgusting

reply

Mother isn't going to water board you or beat you to a pulp if you don't pay her back.

reply

that was as stupid as the movie

Sports betting with the spread is usually run about -110 meaning you have to bet 110 dollars to win 100. Not a huge difference, but he wouldn't double down there, he'd be about 490-500. Regardless, as you said he still walks out leaving a hefty sum on the table. My guess would be this being his last go at betting. When he walks out after Wahlberg's character feels the burden lift off, and i feel that keeping the excess would've just meant he would've went back to gambling with it.

reply

Bet $110 and get $210 back. You don't pay the vig if you win. That still doesn't account for the huge discrepancy in dollar amounts though.

He owes Lee $240k
He owes Neville $60k

He gets Frank to give him $260k

He gets Lee to give him $150k which he gives to Lamar.

Gives Neville his $60k

So now...
He owes Lee $390k (orig 240 + 150)
He owes Frank $260k

He has 200k left

He takes the $200 puts it on the game

So he's got $400k left and doubles it on roulette so he's had $800k and walks away.

Chen takes his $390, Frank his $260....$610k left

So the 'cream' he left with Frank was $150k. IF Vegas takes 10% of his winnings, he's down to about 110K based on only having $360 to double instead of $400

That gets closer to the 100k that Frank mentioned being left over.

reply

Frank says there was $100k left? I thought he just said some cream and didn't say a number.

He owed Lee $240?

You sure you aren't thinking of the $240 he was up at Blackjack the first night before dropping on Roulette?

If it was $240 (and Nevilles $60), then why take $260 from Frank? He'd take $300. $260 is a random number that would make no sense (not that any of this makes any sense, lol).

reply

Yep, just re-watched and Frank puts a figure of 100k on it.

"Here's your hundred. Turns out there was a little extra, cream on top, on me."

I figured the extra 100k was the 50k that Wahlberg had allocated for Dexter the tennis kid, who then refused it and that 50k was then doubled at the roulette table, leading to the 100k of 'cream'.

reply

He paid 40k of 240k (that he owes to Lee) when he borrowed 50k from Neville and played with the 10k left.

I don`t remember anything mentioned about the winning rates of the basketball bet in the movie. And for some reason I thought he gave 50k to Dexter. I might be wrong, though. I didn`t hear how much he got from Lee, either. Is it really 150k? The numbers don`t add up if that`s the case.

The last bet must be 230k for him to pay off his debt to Lee and Frank.

I`m going to have to wait for the blu-ray release to find out.

He bets Franks $260k in Vegas at 1.90 he ends up with $494k he pays Neville $60k he has $434k he doubles it to $868k - $610 = $278k which would be split between Lee and Frank he said the money belonged to both of them they might have split the cream evenly but since he owed Lee more than Frank I figure Lee would have taken about $170k and Frank $108k.

Does he ever say that he is paying Neville $60k? Wouldn't the vig be more that $10 grand after all that time?

Ps I haven't been able to confirm this but its also possible that the IRS may immediately take a 30% tax cut out of the winnings of such a large bet

reply

So basically we all agree nothing adds up or makes sense and that there was more money left behind then just some 'cream'. Lol.

He tells Dexter in the gym $150k and that's what he asked Lee to stake him. While we don't for sure, it's implied.

He hands Neville and envelope and he seemed happy. It could've been more then the $60k he owed him (with added charges) but we don't know that for sure.

reply

I don't agree he just didn't want the extra money the fact that you want to argue about how much the word cream should mean is pretty much just you. The money was all in $10k stacks of 100s the zip lock bag in the car was about 6-10 stacks

reply

There must have been interest on the $260K loan from Frank. I don't remember what they said in the movie, 10 points? 20 points?
