Terrific Jeffrey Combs performance

Combs -- the Re-Animator himself -- is absolutely terrific in this film. It's a very Vincent Price-like performance, without being an imitation.

Worth seeing for him alone.

He saved the movie for me. I doubt I'd have finished ten minutes of it if he hadn't hooked me with his performance. He was great in The Frighteners too, keeps your eyes glued to the screen in every scene he's in. Very interesting dude.

reply

Agreed. A fine performance from a fine actor!

I knew he looked familiar and sure enough it was Jeffrey Combs from Re-Animator. He absolutely killed it.

I bet you wish your nose was a dick so you could *beep* butts.

reply

He was in House on Haunted Hill as well. Similar movie and concept.

reply

Wow, I totally disagree. Could he have chewed up the scenery any more? (that's an expression for overacting for those unfamiliar with the term). He cranked it way past 11 and up to, oh, 24 or so? Felt like a Steve Martin performance in an SNL sketch.

reply

This. It was a very forced and hammy performance.

reply

But isn't that kind of Combs schtick?
I mean look at him in any other movie he's in... He basically just grabs the cutlery and starts cutting in to the scenery.
Someone mentioned Frighteners; now, I really like that movie - and I actually enjoyed Combs in that one - he definately is the odd one out in it. He puts on a performance so outlandish that it makes his part in Would You Rather seem almost sedated.
Still...I like it. It's just the way he is/acts I guess.

-If made by George Lucas, this would be re-released 3 times - and by now be mostly cgi.

reply

Ok, I'm not familiar with Combs and his work but I understand that if you're a fan you would appreciate this performance, and even expect it.

That was Geoffrey RUSH...

reply

Leopard, Geoffrey Rush is a main character in House on Haunted Hill, yes, but Jeffrey Combs is also in it. If I'm not mistaken he plays a doctor who is killed in the opening and returns throughout the movie as one of the ghosts. He is one of director William Malone's favorite recurring actors and appears in a lot of his work.

He is the main thing that made me want to watch the film again. He was beyond brilliant. He chewed the scenery in a damn good way.

Haters gonna hate

reply

He is the best part of the movie.

reply

Same with the young guy who played his son. The son was my favorite character. I love his voice

reply

Combs is the sole reason why I watched this movie and he was worth it. I loved his sneering, but civil comments whenever something happened. His part is probably the only thing that really stands out in this movie.

reply

Yes, so true!

reply

Totally. I also loved his performance. I've been a fan of his since Star Trek Dee Space 9.
