Dave Chappelle
Up front, I love pretty much all things Dave Chappelle. So saying this is odd for me, especially since I thought K&P was a cheap copy at first, several years ago. Five seasons in now, I can say is K&P absolutely stands tall on it's own. It is no more a copy of Chappelle Show than Conan is of SNL. The only real similarities are both being black led, and sketch comedy. That is where the similarities end for the most part. Not to mention ALL art shares influence and a certain roots to others that came before, hence the whole "laid the foundation" saying. For Dave to throw jabs is kind of petty and undeserved. You simply can't have it both ways Dave. You can't walk away and claim no care or love of the whole fame game and then get bent because someone picked up where you left off with a new take on the black sketch comedy you pioneered. Make no mistake, K&P are no hacks. They stand tall all on there own and have done enough quality stuff over the seasons that had about zero influence from Chappelle Show. Some sketches took cues but most were pulled from many other influences. Just like Chappelle Show did as well. Is K&P perfect? Nope, but it is a worthy successor and deserves some praise, not petty jelousy. Get back in the game and do it better Dave, then you can poke all the jabs you want and we will all gladly forgive you, just for being back in our living rooms again.
For those Dave fans who refuse to watch K&P because you think it a cheap copy, give it a chance. With both being biracial, they gave a very good grasp of the cultural issues and idiosyncrasies making great comedic fodder from them. I promise you that if you don't catch yourself laughing within the first show or two you should get checked for a broken chuckler.
