I need to know how children reacted to this

Let me preface this by saying I'm not a parent, but I am genuinely curious.

I went into this movie without any real expectation, but came out with with an experience that, for all the wrong reasons, was amazing. Since this movie has some child and adult oriented joking, I personally classify it as a family film. Take that as you will. Either way, though, the characters were clearly designed to appeal to children and I'm sure plenty of kids dragged their parent to see this.

That said, parents, siblings, babysitters, whatever. I must know how they reacted to this movie. Were they bored? Engaged? Afraid? I know that beetle scene got me.

Matter of fact, if you don't want to get too detailed, just tell me how they reacted to the beetle scene or if they reacted at all.

My 3 yr old was amused by the animation in the beginning and the light humor and interaction. When the dad was swept by the flood, that's when it turned dark and minutes later (as we watch Arlo continue to struggle in climbing up the steep canyon), my kid was like, I'm done/turn this off.
